ROWAN SWEEPS RAMAPO IN NJAC ACTION

Glassboro, NJ:  The Rowan Prof softball team proved to be too much for Ramapo today as they swept the Roadrunners, 8-0 (6) and 1-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference double header match-up.  With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Profs jump ahead to 22-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Game 1:  The first game ended after just six innings as the Profs scattered 14 hits across the game crossing eight runs for the shut out.  The Roadrunners were able to connect five hits but unable to score a run losing the NJAC battle.  The Profs came out strong and scored three in the bottom of the 1st inning and added one more in the 3rd before tacking on an additional three runs in the 4th and one more in the 5th to end the game.  Beth Ann Hyland pitched four innings for the Profs and earned the win letting up just two hits and striking out six.  Allison Nolan came in and closed out the game in two innings pitched.  She let up three hits and struck out one on the day.

Shilah Snead went 3-4 with two runs and one RBI as the lead off batter for the Profs while Mia Baldassari hit 3-4 with two runs and one RBI of her own.  Carly Anderson hit 3-4 and drove in two runs and Ashley DeYoung posted one hit on two at bats scoring one run in the win.

For Ramapo, Danielle Saporito hit 2-3 and Harper Patsko, Christina Brizek, and Mikayla Melendez each tallied a hit in the loss.  Katrina Buczkowski gets the loss falling to 5-4 on the year from the mound.  She pitched 3.2 innings, letting up ten hits and seven runs while striking out two.

Game 2:  There was just one run from Baldassari that came across the plate in the bottom of the 1st inning and it was enough as the Profs took Ramapo 1-0 in the second of the double header match-up.  Hyland gets the win to improve to 12-2 on the year.  She struck out six and let up just five hits in the complete game appearance.  Snead went 2-3 and Morgan Smith went 2-3 with one RBI, while Baldassari gets the game winner.

Saporito, Patsko, Melanie Walling, Melendez, and Erin Fitzsimmons each recorded a hit for the Roadrunners but it wasn't enough in game two as the Profs took the sweep with their lone run.  Brizek takes the loss falling to 8-2 on the year.  She pitched the complete game striking out three and letting up just five hits.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they host NJAC rival Rutgers Newark at 3pm at the Athletic Center.
