Union, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team defeated NJAC rival Kean University on the road 9-1 in six innings in game one and 8-4 in game two. The Roadrunners improve to 18-10 overall, 8-4 in the NJAC while the Cougars now stand at 14-16 overall, 6-6 in the conference.

Each team scored one run in the first inning before the Roadrunners used a seven run fourth to take an 8-1 lead. Ramapo added one run in the top of the sixth before holding Kean in the bottom half inning for the run-ruled win 9-1.

Katrina Buczkowski scattered seven hits while she struck out six and walked none in the win for Ramapo. She improved to 8-5 overall. Ramapo scored in the top of the first when
Danielle Saporito led off the game with a single before she stole second base and later scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. Kean came back with one run of bottom of the first when Emily Sabo scored on Caroline Ratti's single down the right field line 1-1.

The Roadrunners tacked on seven runs in the fourth inning.
Melissa Moreno reach base on an infield error to lead off the inning before
Grace Brennan singled to center field. Oliva Mahon then put down a sac bunt that was misplayed by the Kean defense allowing Moreno and Brennan to score while Mahon went all the way to third base. The bases were loaded for
Mikayla Melendez who laced a two RBI single to right-center field before
Christina Brizek singled home
Harper Patsko. Moreno then stepped to the plate and drove home Melendez and Brizek with a double to left-center field to take an 8-1 lead.

In the sixth, Melendez led off with a double before moving to third on Brizek's pop fly to center field. Moreno then ripped a single back up the middle allowing Melendez to score for the 9-1 lead. Buczkowski got out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth; with two outs Kean recorded back-to-back hits before Buczkowski induced an infield pop up to end the game.Â

In game two, Ramapo used a ten hit attack including two home runs from
Nicole Mahoney to take the game 8-4. The Roadrunners jumped on the board in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Melendez reach on a fielder's choice and
Melanie Walling drew a two-out walk before Melendez was able to score on a Kean error 1-0. Walling later scored on the second Kean error of the inning. Mahoney led off the top of the second with a full count solo home run over the left-center field wall for a 3-0 lead before she connected again in the fourth inning.
Grace Brennan led off with a double before Mahoney stepped to the plate this time driving the ball over the right field wall; extending the Ramapo lead 5-0.

Kean got on the board with four runs in the fifth inning to come within one 4-5. A single, error and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Cougars before Krakower doubled plated three runs. Ratti then singled home Samantha Krakower for the team's fourth run of the game.
In the top of the sixth inning, Brennan and Mahoney led off with back-to-back singles before they moved up on a sac bunt from
Ally Spellman. Brennan came home when an infield groundout from Patsko was misplayed allowing all runners to be safe and Brennan to score for a 6-4 lead. In the seventh the Roadrunners added two runs, extending their lead 8-4. Mahoney ripped a double to right-center field plating
Erin Fitzsimmons and Brennan. Fitzsimmons singled to lead off the inning while Brennan reach base on a hit by pitch.

Ramapo held the Cougars in the bottom half of the seventh as Fitzsimmons earned her second save of the season after entering in the fifth for starting pitcher Brizek. Brizek (10-3) earned the win in 4.2 innings of work; she struck out two, walked four and surrendered five hits. Fitzsimmons worked the final 2.1 innings not allowing a run while striking out three and walking four and letting up only one hit.

Mahoney led the team at the plate finishing 4-4 with two home runs and five RBI while Brennan was 2-3 with three runs scored.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival Montclair State University for a double header starting at 1pm.
