Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team has earned the program's first ever bid to the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. The Roadrunners (24-5) earned one of 20 at-large bids up for grabs in the field of 64 teams. Forty-three conferences earned an automatic bid to the tournament for winning their conference championship.
The Roadrunners, who recorded a 19-match win streak this season, will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ for their first round match. The Ducks will host the first, second and third round match-ups this weekend, November 11
th through 13
th.
Ramapo will square off against a familiar non-conference foe in Hunter College (19-14) who captured their third straight CUNYAC Conference Title. The Roadrunners and Hawks will take the floor at Walker Gymnasium on Friday, November 11
th at 12:30pm. Ramapo defeated Hunter three times this season. The two teams met in the first match of the year on Sept. 2
nd with Ramapo earning a five-set match victory, 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 25-17, 18-25, 15-7). The Roadrunners defeated Hunter once again on Sept. 16
th at the Bradley Center, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-21). Their final match-up came on Sept. 24
th at Hunter as Ramapo won, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13).
The winner of the Ramapo/Hunter match will take on the winner of the Farmingdale State (19-6) and Eastern (29-5) match on November 12
th. Eastern and Farmingdale both won their conference titles to earn the automatic bid. Ramapo defeated Farmingdale State on October 27
th at home in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18).
The only other team the Roadrunners are familiar with in the bracket is NJAC rival Montclair State University. The Red Hawks recently defeated Ramapo in an exciting four-set match in the NJAC Championship on November 5
th. The Roadrunners defeated MSU during the regular season, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19).
Offensively the Roadrunners are led junior outside hitter
Larysa Iwaskiw. Iwaskiw, who is also the career kills leader at Ramapo, has posted a team high 603 kills this season, 5.91 per set. She leads the team with 371 digs while she is second on the team with 44 aces. Senior outside hitter
Emily Guzman recorded 192 kills this season and is second on the team with 53 total blocks. Senior
Rachel Selmore and rookie
Kate Shirkey have split the setting duties this season with Shirkey leading the pair with 520 assists while Selmore recorded 483. On defense, sophomore defensive specialist
Kristen Behrens has tallied 368 digs while senior
Natalia Saavedra has recorded 140 digs of her own and 19 aces. Rookie outside hitter
Karina Almeda has posted 101 kills, 12 assists and a team high 65 aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Judy Errichetti has helped lead the Roadrunners on offense with 151 kills while rookie middle blocker
Samantha Main leads Ramapo with 64 total blocks, including 13 solo. Main has also recorded 56 kills this season.
