Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team opened NJAC play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-16) sweep over New Paltz tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC while the Hawks move to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
In the opening set, New Paltz jumped out to an 8-3 lead before Ramapo rallied to tie the score at 13 before the two teams traded points down the stretch. With the score tied at 20, the Roadrunners went on a 3-0 run highlighted by an
Asya Akar service ace and a block from
Emilia Ristevska to take a 23-20 lead. A kill from
Valentina Palen gave Ramapo a 24-21 lead before
Emilia Ristevska sealed the set with a block, 25-21.
The two teams traded points early in the second set before Ramapo broke a 6-6 tie with six straight points.
Aubrey Agcaoili recorded two service aces during the run while
Jasmine Rolle tallied three kills and
Sydney Tramontana added one as the Roadrunners pushed the score 12-6. Ramapo maintained the lead the rest of the way and Akar put down the final kill for the 25-19 win.
New Paltz took a 6-2 lead in the third before Ramapo responded. Seeing themselves down three, the Roadrunners scored five straight points to take a 12-9 lead, including back-to-back kills from Tramontana, a block from Tramontana and Rolle and a kill from
Scarlett Melick. Ramapo later used another 5-0 run to stretch a 17-14 lead to 22-14 before closing out the match, 25-16.
Cass Chauhan led the Roadrunners with eight kills while hitting .412 and collecting a team-high 15 digs. Rolle posted seven kills, three blocks and hit .333 while Akar and Tramontana each contributed six kills. Ristevska led the team with six blocks while Agcaoili dished out a team-high 22 assists and recorded three service aces.
Emily Tepale added 11 digs as Ramapo held a 10-6 advantage in blocks and finished with seven service aces.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, Sept. 24th when they host Centenary University in a non-conference match at 6pm at the Bradley Center.
