BONACUM LEADS RAMAPO TO TOURNAMENT WIN

Box Score Westfield, Mass.:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team, behind tournament most valuable player, Thomas Bonacum, defeated host Westfield State, 79-66 in the championship game of the Rick Martin Holiday Inn Tip Off tournament.  With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 2-0 on the year while Westfield falls to 1-1.

Bonacum scored 22 points to lead the way for Ramapo College as he shot 10-18 from the floor.  He added five rebounds and four assists in the win. 

The two teams traded baskets through the early stages of the game and Westfield would cut the Roadrunners lead to 27-22 on a Dan Lanoue layup with 7:17 to play in the first half, but Ramapo got away from the Owls with an 11-2 run to extend their lead to 38-24 on a steal and layup by Cory Soanes.  Ramapo finished the first half of play with a 45-32 lead.

Westfield chipped away at the Roadrunners lead midway through the second half, cutting their advantage down to 61-55 on an Evan Hopson three-point play with 9:51 on the clock .  Ramapo would gradually extend their lead down the stretch to win the game by 13.

Four Roadrunners finished in double-figures in scoring, with Soanes adding 14, Josh Ford and Christopher Moseley chipping in 12 each.

For Westfield, Cam Earle scored a team-high 14 points off the bench and hit three of five three-point tries.  Allister Williams  added 13 points and five rebounds and Hopson finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Ramapo returns to action when they open NJAC play at William Paterson on Tuesday evening set for a 8pm tip.
