HERNANDEZ LEADS #2 RAMAPO IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

Glassboro, NJ:  The #2 Ramapo College softball team advanced in the 2015 NJAC Tournament with a 3-1 win over #3 William Paterson University. The Roadrunners now stand at 26-11-1 while the Pioneers are now 27-10-1 on the year.
 
Ramapo advances to play at 2pm tomorrow afternoon when they take on the winner of game seven: #1 Rowan University and #3 William Paterson University.
 
WPU got on the board in the top of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead. Nicole Fryer led off with a double before Rachel Wasilak drove her home with a sac fly to right field.
 
Ramapo took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Grace Brennan led off with a single before Nicole Hernandez drilled the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to put the Roadrunners in the lead 2-1. Ramapo added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Mikayla Melendez drove home Jaclyn Lima with a sac fly to center field for a 3-1 score.
 
The Roadrunners held the Pioneers in their final two at-bats of the game, snapping 14-game win streak for WPU. Katrina Buczkowski (13-5) earned the win on the mound. She struck out five, walked two and surrendered six hits. Paige Merle worked one inning for the Roadrunners in relief holding WPU to no runs scored while Christina Brizek got the first two outs for Ramapo in the seventh before Buczkowski came back in to get the final out of the game. Danielle Saporito, Brennan, HernandeZ and Lima each collected one hit for Ramapo.
 
The Pioneers collected eight hits in the game including two from Nicole Fryer while six other Pioneers each recorded one hit. Allison Podmajersky (11-5) took the loss for WPU; she struck out four and walked none while she gave up three runs.
