Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC doubleheader from visiting New Jersey City University today in two five inning games, 12-1 & 9-1. The Roadrunners improve to 13-5 overall, 4-0 in the conference.
In game one, Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning when
Mikayla Melendez ripped an RBI double to leftfield plating
Danielle Saporito and
Kim LaPenta, 2-0.
In the top of the second inning, NJCU starting pitcher Brittany Paulikas sent a ball over the leftfield wall to put the Gothic Knights on the board, 1-2. Ramapo came back to score seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. The bases were loaded for

Grace Brennan and
Alexandria Rigoli before the relay throw from the outfield was misplayed allowing Lima to score and Saporito to advance to third. LaPenta drove home Saporito with a double to left field before she came home on
Melanie Walling's sac fly to centerfield. Brennan drove home
Melissa Moreno with a single while Melendez scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch to take a 9-1 lead. The Roadrunners added two runs in the third and one run in the fourth, extending their lead 12-1.

Katrina Buczkowski (6-2) earned the win for Ramapo. She struck out one, walked three while scattering three hits over five innings of work.
For NJCU, Paulikas (1-5) surrendered 14 hits over four innings of work while she struck out one and walked two.
In game two, the Roadrunners once again took an early lead scoring one run in the first inning. Saporito walked, stole second base and came home on Walling's RBI double for the 1-0 lead. In the second inning, the bases were loaded for Saporito who ripped a single through the left side of the infield plating Brennan, 2-0. LaPenta then drove home Rigoli with a sac fly to centerfield to take a 3-0 lead.
NJCU scored their lone run in the third inning. Following back-to-back strikeouts, Ashley Latushko drove home Jazz Randall with a single to centerfield. Randall walked to reach base earlier in the inning, 1-3. Ramapo came back to score three runs in the third inning aided by three errors from the NJCU defense to take a 6-1 lead. In the fourth inning, Brennan drove home Melendez before Rigoli drove home Brennan to plate two runs, 8-1. Ramapo would push the lead to 9-1 and end the game with the eight-run rule when

Starting pitcher Christian Brizek (4-3) earned the win, she struck out five and walked while she scattered only two hits. Everyone in the Ramapo lineup collected one hit while Brennan scored three runs and Rigoli scored two.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 4th at 2pm when they host #6 Rowan University in a NJAC doubleheader.
