#6 ROWAN TOPS RAMAPO IN NJAC SOFTBALL ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The #6 Rowan University softball team swept a NJAC doubleheader from Ramapo College today, 3-0 in game one and 10-1 in six innings in game two. The Profs who now stand at 24-0 and 4-0 in the NJAC, remain one of two undefeated teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25 poll, in the NJAC. The Roadrunners fall to 13-7 overall, 4-2 in the conference.
 
Rowan scored two quick runs in the top of the first inning in game one, taking a 2-0 lead. Shilah Snead worked a lead-off walk before she stole her 22nd base of the season. She then came home on Mia Baldassari's triple to center field. Baldassari scored on Alysa Romero's single to left field.
 
The Roadrunners held the Profs scoreless for the next three innings before they scored an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning aided by a Ramapo error to take a 3-0 lead. Ramapo could not scratch a run across, collecting only two hits in the game.
 
Rowan starting pitcher Beth Ann Hyland (10-0) fired a two-hit shutout, her third of the season. She struck out six and walked two. Romero collected two hits for the Profs.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski (6-3) scattered five hits in the loss. She struck out three and walked one.
 
In game two, Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Danielle Saporito laced a single up the middle before she moved to second on a sac bunt and to third on a wild pitch. Melanie Walling laced a single to left field plating Saporito with the Roadrunners lone run of the game.
 
Rowan came back to score four runs in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Snead ripped a single back up the middle plating two runs for the Profs. The third run came across on a wild pitcher while the fourth scored on an infield hit as they took a 4-1 lead. In the fifth inning, Morgan Smith hit her second home run of the season over the right-centerfield fence, 5-1, before the Profs added five more runs in the sixth inning to take a 10-1 lead.
 
Ashley Lesch worked the first 3.2 innings for the Profs. She scattered five hits, struck out three and walked three. Allison Nolan moved to 7-0 on the season earning the win in relief. She struck out one, walked one and scattered two hits over 2.1 innings of work. Rowan collected 11 hits in the game as Snead, Baldassari, Smith and Jessica Phillips each collected two hits apiece.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher, Christina Brizek (4-4) worked the first 1.1 innings. She walked two and surrendered three hits and four runs. Buczkowski came in and worked 4.0 innings. She struck out three while giving up eight hits and six runs. Paige Merle got the final two outs for the Roadrunners in the top of the sixth inning, facing just two Rowan hitters. Saporito finished the game 3-4 while Walling was 2-3.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road at NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University at 3pm
