Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team recorded their 20th win of the season in a 2-0 shutout of Kean University in game one while the two teams finished in a 4-4 tie in game two. The second game was called due to darkness. The Roadrunners stand at 20-7-1 overall, 9-2-1 in the NJAC while the Cougars now stand at 17-7-1 overall, 7-4-1 in the conference.
In game one, Ramapo starting pitcher
Katrina Buczkowski (9-3) fired a five-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks and
Grace Brennan drove home the eventual game winning run in the bottom of the second inning.

Melanie Walling with a double to right-center field with two outs to put the Roadrunners on the board 1-0 in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Ramapo added another run as Walling scored on an infield error by the Cougars to extend their lead, 2-0.
Buczkowski and the Ramapo defense would hold the Cougars the rest of the game to preserve the shutout. Ramapo collected six hits in the game as Brennan finished 2-3 with on RBI.

In game two, the Roadrunners led 1-0 after the second inning after
Nicole Mahoney belted her first home run of her career over the center field fence.

Kean came back to score two runs in the top of the third inning. Emily Sabo drove home two runs with a triple down the left field line that fell at the base of the fence for a 2-1 lead. The Cougars added two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Ramapo came back to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.
Jaclyn Lima and
Danielle Saporito each singled to start the inning before a sac bunt from
Kim LaPenta was misplayed to load the bases with no outs.
Melissa Moreno then hit a pop fly behind first base in shallow right field that was caught for the first out but it allowed Lima to race home for the Roadrunners' first run of the inning. Saporito then scored on a pass ball before
Mikayla Melendez plated LaPenta with a sac fly to deep right field for the game tying run.

Neither team could score in the sixth or seventh innings. Following the final out by the Ramapo defense in the bottom of the seventh inning the umpires declared the game over due to darkness.

Christina Brizek worked the first 4.2 innings. She struck out two and walked three while she scattered six hits.
Paige Merle came in for relief and worked the final 2.1 innings holding the Cougars to no hits or runs while she struck out two and walked two.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Moravian College on Thursday, April 16th for a doubleheader at 3:00 PM.
