Bethlehem, PA: The Moravian College softball team swept a non-conference double header from Ramapo College today at Blue & Grey Field, 7-1 in game one and 11-3 in five innings in game two. The Greyhounds improve to 20-4 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 20-9-1 on the year.
In game one, Josie Novak (9-3) fired a four hitter for Moravian with 11 strikeouts and only one walk. The Greyhounds scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning before the Roadrunners got on the board in the top of the third inning.
Jaclyn Lima put down a bunt single to lead off the inning and stole second before
Melissa Moreno laced a single up the middle to plate Lima with the Roadrunners' only run of the game.
Moravian added one run in the third and three runs in the fourth en route to a 7-1 victory.
Ramapo collected four hits in the game; LaPenta was 2-3 including a double while Lima and Moreno each collected a hit.
Katrina Buczkowski (9-4) struck out four with one walk while she surrendered ten hits and seven runs (six earned).
In game two, Moravian scored two runs in the bottom of the first before Ramapo came back to tie the game with two runs of their own in the top of the second inning.
Melanie Walling doubled to lead off the inning before
Mikayla Melendez ripped a single to left field allowing Walling to stand on third base.
Nicole Mahoney drove home Walling with a single down the right field line before a infield ground out from
Nicole Hernandez allowed Melendez to cross home plate, 2-2.
The Greyhounds came back to score three runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead before Ramapo added one run in the top of the fifth. Lima put down a bunt as the Moravian third basemen could not handle the throw allowing Lima to advance to second. She advanced to third on an infield ground out before scoring on LaPenta's sac fly.
Moravian scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for an 11-3 five inning victory. The Greyhounds belted out 13 hits in the game while starting pitcher Amanda Carisone (11-1) held the Roadrunners to four hits while she struck out four and walked none.
Christina Brizek (6-5) struck out one and walked two while she surrendered 13 hits and 11 runs (seven earned). Walling, Melendez, Mahoney and Lima all collected a hit for the Roadrunners while Lima added a run scored and stolen base.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 18th when they host NJAC rival Montclair State University at 1:00pm.
