SOFTBALL SPLITS PAIR OF GAMES AT REBEL SPRING GAMES

Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split their double header today at the Rebel Spring Games. The Roadrunners fell to Eastern Connecticut State University, 4-5 in eight innings before they blanked SUNY Cortland, 6-0.

In game one, ECSU scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead before the Roadrunners game back with one run in the third and fifth innings to cut the lead to two. In the top of the sixth inning Ramapo tied the game 4-4. Danielle Saporito singled and later scored on an error in the outfield for the team's first run of the inning. Pinch runner Emily Helmer scored from second base when Melanie Walling laced a single up the middle to tie the game.

Neither team could push a run across in the seventh inning setting up the international tiebreaker in the eighth inning. Saporito was placed on second base and advanced to third on an infield groundout before the Warriors ended the Roadrunner threat.  An infield groundout was the final out of the inning for ECSU as the Warrior's shortstop made a snag up the middle to get Ally Spellman out at first base.

In the bottom half of the inning the Warriors used a sac bunt to move their runner from second to third before pushing the game winning run across with a squeeze bunt for the 5-4 win.

Christina Brizek (2-2) was the hard luck pitcher in the loss, she struck out four, walked three and scattered five hits over 7.1 innings of work. Seven Roadrunners collected one hit apiece in the game.

In game two, Ramapo scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Kim LaPenta singled through the right side of the infield before Walling followed up with a single of her own down the left field line. Melissa Moreno walked to load the bases for Saporito who recorded a sac fly to left field, plating LaPenta with the game's first run. Spellman then smacked a single to load the bases for Grace Brennan who ripped a double down the left field line, picking up two RBI. Jaclyn Lima then ripped a double to center field with the bases loaded allowing three more runs to come home for the Roadrunners, taking the 6-0 lead.

Katrina Buczkowski (4-1) spun a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and no walks for the Roadrunners. Walling finished the game with two hits (2-2) while Lima led the team with three RBI.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow in their final games at the Rebel Spring Games. The Roadrunners take on Skidmore College at 10am before a rematch with Eastern Connecticut State University at 12:15pm.
