SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE AT REBEL SPRING GAMES

Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team opened the 2015 season today with a split at the Rebel Spring Games. The Roadrunners defeated Muskingum, 6-4 before falling to McDaniel, 7-3.
 
In game one, Ramapo took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Melanie Walling led off with a single and later scored on an infield throwing error that rolled all the way to the fence. Taylor May put down a bunt and the throw to second sailed into the outfield, allowing both runners to score.
 
Muskingum (5-6) scored in the top of the third inning to tie the game. With two outs Melissa Maiorano scored an unearned run on a Ramapo error in the outfield before Jessie Matthews hit a double to left field scoring Amy Clark to tie the game, 2-2.
 
The Roadrunners regained the lead in the third inning, 3-2, when Walling laced a double to right-center, scoring Danielle Saporito who led off the inning with a bunt single. With two outs in the fourth inning, Kim LaPenta drove home Olivia D'Amato with a double down the left field line to for the 4-2 lead.
 
In the sixth inning, the Muskies scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead aided by three Ramapo errors. The Ramapo defense and starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski held Muskingum in the top of the 7th allowing the Roadrunners to have a chance at a come back in the bottom half of the inning. Moreno walked and was lifted for pinch runner Alexandria Rigoli before Walling also walked. May then put down a sacrifice bunt to move the two runners up a base before Grace Brennan singled down the left field line, allowing Rigoli to score with the game-tying run, 5-5. Jaclyn Lima then ripped a single over the left fielder's head as Walling scored for the walk off win, 6-5.
 
Buczkowski (1-0) went the full seven innings for the Roadrunners, earning her first collegiate win of the season. She struck out five and walked one without giving up an earned run and scattering six hits. Walling finished the game 2-2 with two runs scored and one RBI while Saporito added two hits on four at-bats with one run scored. D'Amato finished with two hits on three at-bats with one run scored.
 
In game two, Ramapo once again took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Saporito ripped a triple to right centerfield, scoring LaPenta before Saporito came home on a wild pitch for the 2-0 lead.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, McDaniel cut the lead in half as Jamie Weisser smacked a double to center field allowing Payton Lewis to score, 1-2. The Green Terror scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
 
Ramapo added one run in the top of the fifth inning when D'Amato scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, 3-3, before McDaniel added four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. Ramapo could not push another run across as McDaniel came away with the win.
 
Christina Brizek (0-1) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners, she scattered eight hits and gave up seven runs (four earned) while striking out two and walking one.
 
For the Green Terror, Caroline Brehm (2-0) went the distance firing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games with games against Centenary College (10am) and Centenary College (12:15pm).
