SOFTBALL SWEEPS ON DAY TWO

Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team earned two wins today at the Rebel Spring Games improving to 3-1 overall. The Roadrunners defeated Centenary College, 7-2 before defeating Springfield College, 13-2.
 
In game one, Centenary (0-1) got on the board with two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead before the Roadrunners exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning. Kim LaPenta led off the inning with a bunt single before Danielle Saporito laced a single up the middle. The two moved up on a stolen base before LaPenta scored on a wild pitch. With the bases loaded Ally Spellman ripped a double to right centerfield, plating Saporito and pinch runner Emily Helmer. Taylor May, Grace Brennan and Jaclyn Lima each collected RBI singles before Melissa Moreno drew a bases loaded walk to take a 7-2 lead.
 
Ramapo added two runs in the fifth inning. Spellman led off with a triple to right centerfield before Brennan knocked her in with a single to leftfield. Pinch hitter Nicole Mahoney smacked a triple of her own to right field plating Brennan for the second run of the inning, 9-2.
 
Christina Brizek (1-1) earned her first win of the season with a complete game four-hitter. She struck out three and walked none while she did not surrender an earned run. Ramapo collected ten hits while LaPenta, Spellman and Brennan each collected two hits apiece.
 
In game two against Farmingdale State, the Roadrunners scored one run in the top of the first inning when Moreno laced a single down the left field line plating Olivia D'Amato for the first run of the game.
 
Farmingdale State scored one run to tie the game in the bottom of the first before Ramapo added three runs in the fifth inning.  Spellman and Moreno worked back-to-back walks before Brennan smacked a triple picking up two RBI. Mahoney then laid down a sac bunt as Brennan crossed the plate safely to put the Roadrunners ahead 4-2. In the sixth inning Ramapo added five runs on five hits, including three straight doubles before they scored four more runs in the seventh inning extending their lead to 13-2.
 
Katrina Buczkowski earned her second win of the season on the mound; she struck out seven and walked one while scattering eight hits. Moreno and Brennan each collected three hits and four RBI in the game while Saporito finished 2-3 with two runs scored and Lima added two hits and two RBI.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday when they take on St. Norbert College at 10am and Springfield College at 12:15pm.
