Box Score Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team fell to NJAC rival Rowan University tonight on the road, 90-86. The Roadrunners now stand at 9-13 overall, 6-9 in the NJAC while the Profs even their overall record to 11-11 and stand at 6-9 in the conference.
All five starters for both teams scored in double figures as sophomore
Frank Nock led the Roadrunners with 22 points, four assists and four rebounds. Senior
Terry Hicks scored 20 points, including four baskets from beyond the three-point line. Hicks also grabbed a team high seven rebounds Senior
Jermaine Emanuel dished out four assists while he scored 19 points while junior
Elvonney Poole and rookie
George Sapp recorded 12 and ten points respectively. The Roadrunners shot 49% (31-63) from the field, 38% (7-18) from beyond the three-point line and 73% (17-23) from the free throw line.
For the Profs, Rich McNamara led the team with a double-double, 17 points and 13 rebounds while Jason Sofman tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Kris O'Connor tallied 13 points, Jason Rosenberg scored 12 points and Tim McDaniels tallied 11 points. Rowan shot 56% (36-64) from the field, 35% (6-17) from beyond the three-point line and 48% (12-25) from the free throw line.
Rowan led by five, 7-2, before Ramapo went on a mini 6-0 run, capped off by a three from Hicks (16:46), giving Ramapo their only lead of the game, 8-7. Rowan came back down the court and scored a three pointer of their own to regain the lead before Ramapo tied the game at ten (16:08), with a basket from Poole. McNamara and Kris O'Connor hit back-to-back three pointers for the Profs, extending their lead, 16-12, with 15:12 on the clock. Emanuel scored two free throws to come within three, 20-23, before Rowan went on a 12-1 run, extending their lead to 35-21 with 8:27 on the clock. Rowan led by as many as 15 in the first half the final time after O'Connor scored a basket, 41-26, 3:56. The Roadrunners then went on a 10-0 run of their own, capped off with a basket from junior
Joshua Daniell, to come within five, 36-41. In the final minutes of the half, Rowan outscored Ramapo, 4-2, as the Profs head into the locker room up seven, 45-38.
Ramapo opened the second half with back-to-back three pointers from Hicks, shrinking the Rowan lead to three, 44-47. The Profs went on an, 8-0, run to take a ten point lead, 56-46, with 16:48 left in the game. A jumper from Emanuel, capped off an 8-0 run for the Roadrunners as they cut the lead to four, 54-58, with 14:51 on the clock. Rowan would lead the whole second half and by as many as nine with 2:23 on the clock, 80-71, on two made free throws before the Roadrunners cut the lead to three with just under a minute to play. Emanuel completed an and-one play with 51 seconds on the clock, 83-86, for Ramapo before Sofman scored for the Profs, 86-81 with just 32 seconds on the clock. Sapp sank two free throws of his own before the Profs connected on two foul shots, 88-83, to make it a five-point game with ten seconds left. Emanuel would come down the court and hit a three pointer for the Roadrunners with five ticks on the clock to come within two, 86-88. Rowan would seal the victory with a pair of made free throws from Matt Whitworth with four seconds left, 90-86.
Ramapo will return to action on Wednesday, February 12th when they host Rutgers-Newark University at 7:30pm.
