Box Score 3 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened the 2014 season today facing off with the City College of New York and #11 Stevenson University.  The Roadrunners earned their first win of the season, defeating the CCNY Beavers, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 27-25), before falling just short in a tough five-set match to #11 Stevenson 2-3 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 22-25, 14-16).  The Roadrunners open the year standing at 1-1 overall. 
Fifteen different Roadrunners made an appearance in the first match-up as the team combined hitting .279 with 32 kills on 61 attempts with 15 errors.  Senior 
Chris Sidnam led the team in the defeat of CCNY, collecting six kills on six attempts with no errors. Rookie 
Connor Brandow chipped in five kills on eight attempts and two errors, hitting .375.  Senior 
Nick Hrehovcik and rookie 
Ryan Casci each posted four kills in the win.  Senior setter 
Andrew Balint dished out 16 assists and rookie setter 
Alec Weissman collected 14, while 
Peter Desvousges and 
Evan Carey each picked up three digs.  Sidnam and rookie 
Ahjon Petty led with three assisted blocks each. 
For CCNY, Nicholas Siriban and Derell Williams led the offense with six kills each, while the team combined hitting -.032 with 18 kills on 63 attempts with 20 errors.  Anthony Reyes dished out 14 assists and Oleksandr Boychuk led the defense picking up six digs. 
In Ramapo's second match-up of the day, against #11 Stevenson, Petty led the Roadrunners' offensive game with 18 kills hitting .263, while Sidnam posted 15 kills on 23 attempts with only two errors.  The team combined hitting .248 with 59 total kills on 137 attempts.  Brian Collabella added ten kills and Balint dished out a team-high 48 assists.  
Kurt MacDonald picked up 15 digs in the loss.
Stevenson's Austin Jacoby led the team with 15 kills while Patrick Schuyler and Jon Martin collected 13 and 11 respectively.  The team hit .263 with 61 kills on 137 attempts and 25 errors.  David Moler collected a team-high 50 assists and Adam Thatcher led the defense with 15 digs.
Other matches of the day: 
#4 New Paltz defeated Brooklyn College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15), behind eight kills from John Lutjen.  The team hit a combined .486 with 41 kills on 70 attempts and only seven errors.  Brian Smith chipped in six kills and Christian Smith led the team contributing 18 assists.  The defense was led by B. Smith who picked up five digs.  For Brooklyn, Antony Koyfman led the team's offense with five kills and Lucas Moline added four in the loss.  Hoyin Ki dished out nine assists on the day.
New Paltz went on to defeat CCNY, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) in their second match-up of the day, behind seven kills from Lutjen.  The team hit .386 with 40 kills on 70 attempts with 13 errors.  C. Smith contributed 13 assists and Lutjen dished out 11 assists while C. Smith led the defense with five digs.  David Avezov led the Beavers recording five kills and hitting .385, while the team went 13-60 with 14 errors hitting -.017.  Reyes dished out ten assists while Siriban led the defense with five digs.  Avezov picked up four digs of his own in the loss. 
In the final match-up of the day, Stevenson improved to 2-0 on the year as they defeated Brooklyn, 25-12, 25-15, 25-22.  Nathan Ellis led the team with six kills and Kevin Carter added four, as the team went 24-62 with 11 errors hitting .210.  Robert Wingert dished out a team-high 14 assists and Scott Morantz picked up seven digs in the win.  Koyfman led Brooklyn with seven kills and Timothy Hui collected six.  The team hit -.044 in the loss with 20 kills and 33 errors on 68 attempts.  Ki dished out 11 assists and Hui led the defense with seven digs.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they face off with Brooklyn at 10am and # New Paltz at 2pm.
