NOCK LEADS RAMAPO IN OVERTIME WIN, 99-96

Box Score Wayne, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival William Paterson University tonight, 99-96, in overtime as sophomore Frank Nock led the team with 35 points. Ramapo improves to 7-8 overall, 4-4 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 11-3 overall, 6-2 in the conference.

Nock was 11-18 from the field including 11-12 from the charity stripe. He also recorded a team high six assists, one block and three steals. Junior Loren Jackson posted a double-double, 23 points and 11 rebounds while Senior Jermaine Emanuel was 4-4 from beyond the three point line for 12 total points. Senior Terry Hicks and rookie George Sapp contributed with eight points a piece and sophomore Tyler Barnes added six points of his own. Ramapo out rebounded WPU, 39-31 in the game. The Roadrunners shot 58% (36-62) from the field, 41% (7-17) from beyond the three point line and 69% (20-29) from the charity stripe in the game.

WPU took a two point lead in the overtime period after two made foul shots from Sandy Burgos before the two teams traded baskets as WPU was up two, 92-90 with 3:05 on the clock. Nock would tie the game three times down the stretch the final time coming with 16 seconds left, as he propelled the Roadrunners to a one point lead after driving to the basket and getting fouled on the shot. Nock completed the three point play, 97-96. Following a timeout taken by WPU Nock stole an attempted pass with five seconds to play and the Pioneers were forced to foul. Nock headed to the line and sank both shots for the lead, 99-96. WPU was able to get a three point shot off that hit the rim as time expired.

Ramapo went into the locker room at halftime up by two, 46-44, after once holding a ten point lead. Down two, they went on 14-2 to take a 21-11 lead with 12:44 on the clock capped off by a jumper from Elvonney Poole. WPU then went on an 8-1 run to come within three, 19-22, with just under ten minutes to play in the half. The Pioneers took the lead with back to back three pointers from Bright Mensah, 27-24 (7:44). Ramapo tied the game at 29 all (6:23) on a made three from Emanuel before he later propelled Ramapo to a three point lead, 34-31 (5:18). A three from WPU cut the Ramapo lead to one, 41-40, before Ramapo would head into the locker room up two, 46-44.

In the second half the Ramapo held their largest lead of the game, 67-53, with 13 minutes on the clock on two made foul shots by Barnes. WPU went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to six, 63-69 (9:26). Ramapo led by six, 73-67 (7:48) before WPU came within one point of the lead two times, the final coming with 5:10 on the clock, 75-76. Ramapo would lead by as many as six down the stretch before a 6-1 run brought WPU to a one point deficit, 84-85 (1:56). Nock completed a three point play (1:28) to regain a four point lead, 88-84. The Pioneers were able to battle back and score the final four points of the half to tie the game for the sixth time, 88-88, sending the game into overtime.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 18th when they host conference rival Richard Stockton College at 3pm.
