Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team defeated non-conference rival Cairn University in an exciting five-set match, 3-2 (21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-12).
The Roadrunners improve to 11-5 overall while the Highlanders fall to 5-10 on the year.
Junior
Brian Colabella led the team with 16 kills on 26 attempts with only five errors as he hit .423 on the night. He also tallied seven digs and one service ace. Rookie
Peter Desvousges posted 15 kills and nine digs while junior
Nick Hrehovcik collected 11 kills, six digs and two blocks. Juniors
Mike Kane and
Chris Sidnam posted five and four blocks respectively. Junior
Harsh Prajapati dished out a team high 33 assists while junior
Andrew Balint posted 15 of his own. Junior
Aaron Kerschner recorded a perfect passing percentage with 29 receiving attempts and a team high 18 digs. Ramapo pounded out 56 kills to Cairn's 48.
Heading into game three down two games to none, the Roadrunners rallied back to defeat the Highlanders, 3-2. In game three, Ramapo tied the game at 19 all with a kill from Desvousges before the Highlanders tied the game at 20 with a kill from Ethan Mawhinney. The scored was tied again at 22 with a kill from Colabella before the Roadrunners posted back-to-back blocks to take a two point lead, 24-22. A kill from the Highlanders and an error by Ramapo tied the game at 24 before Cairn committed a service error, setting the Roadrunners up for match point, 25-24. Desvousges tallied a kill off a pass from Prajapati for the game three victory, 26-24.
In game four, with the scored tied for the ninth time in the game, 11-11, the Highlanders would go on a run to take a 14-11 lead. The scored was tied at 16 all before the Highlanders took an 18-16 lead on a block before Ramapo posted a block (17-18) and Prajapati tallied a kill to tie the game at 18 all. The Roadrunners were down, 19-20, before they went on a three point run to take a 21-20 lead, with a kill from Colabella. A block from Colabella and Sidnam and an attack error from the Highlanders put Ramapo up, 23-20. Following a time out, Cairn picked up the next two points to come within one, 23-22, before Hrehovcik and Colabella pounded out back to back kills for the game four win, 25-23.
Ramapo jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fifth set on a kill from Hrehovcik before the team tallied an 8-5 lead on a kill from Desvousges. Back to back errors by each team set the score to, 9-6, before the Highlanders came within one, 9-8 on a block from Cairn. Sidnam posted a block before Prajapati tallied a service ace to take an 11-8 lead. A kill and service error from the Highlanders put the Roadrunners up 12-9 before Cairn earned two points to come within one, 12-11. Sidnam posted a kill and Cairn tallied an attack error, allowing Ramapo to serve match point, 14-11. The Highlanders' Noah Prickett collected a kill, 14-12, before Colabella tallied his 16th kill of the match to give Ramapo the, 15-12 game five victory.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Skyline rival Yeshiva University for a 7pm match.
