Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team, behind 11 kills from
Chris Sidnam, upset the #14 ranked Cougars of Kean University, 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-17) today at the Bradley Center. With the Skyline Conference victory, Ramapo gets their first win of the year improving to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Sidnam hit 11-23 with only three errors (.348), leading Ramapo who hit a combined 42-116 with 22 errors (.172).
Mike Kane finished the day with eight kills and
Andrew Balint and
Brian Colabella each contributed seven to the win. Balint assisted on 27 points and
Aaron Kerschner led the team's defense with 12 digs. Balint picked up ten digs of his own.
The Roadrunners took game one, 25-23, from the Cougars after hitting .250 as a team with 13 kills on 32 attempts.
Nick Hrehovcik collected three kills while Sidnam, Colabella, and Kane each added three kills of their own. Balint dished out ten assists and Hrehovcik led the defense with four kills. Steve Vahalla led the Cougars with six kills as the team combined for 13 kills on 32 attempts. Tom Kemmerle led the defense with seven digs.
Kean fought back to take game two from Ramapo, 25-16 tying up the match, 1-1, behind six kills from Vahalla, and a .375 hitting performance from the team. The Cougars combined for 11 kills on 24 attempts and only two errors. Ron Dunn dished out eight assists in the win. Sidnam led Ramapo with four kills as the team went 10-28 with eight errors in the loss.
Sidnam led Ramapo to a game three, 25-19 win as the Roadrunners put away a combined eight kills on 25 attempts hitting .160. Balint assisted on six points and Kerschner led the defense with four digs. Vahalla, Ed Jedziniak, and Kyle Farley each put down three kills for the Cougars and Dunn dished out ten assists. Kean went 11-36 with nine errors hitting .056 in the loss.
A kill from Kane gave Ramapo point 25 and the match taking game five, 25-17. Kane put away three kills in the win and Balint added three of his own, while dishing out six assists. Ramapo went 11-31 with five errors hitting .194, while the Cougars hit a combined 8-29 with ten errors hitting -.069. Vahalla led Kean once again with five kills and Dunn assisted on six plays.
On the day, Vahalla led the Cougars with 20 kills and Jedziniak collected 11, while Dunn dished out a team high 36 assists. Kemmerle led the defense with 11 digs.
In a second match-up of the day, the Roadrunners swept the Panthers of Purchase College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-12) to improve to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference.
In game one, Colabella led Ramapo to a 25-11 win with five kills on six attempts and no errors hitting .833. As a team Ramapo hit a combined 13-23 with three errors (.435). Hrehovcik collected three kills and Balint dished out eight assists and Kerschner picked up four digs leading the defense. Mateo Morel and Taylor Edelmann each recorded one kill for Purchase. Thomas DeCarlo led the team's defense with five digs.
Sidnam led the Roadrunners to a game two, 25-12 win collecting four kills on six attempts hitting .500. Balint dished out four assists and Colabella picked up two digs. Ramapo went 8-16 (.250) with four errors as a team while Purchase collected five kills on 17 attempts with nine errors hitting -.235 in the loss. Alex Billen-Calhoun led the Panthers with two kills.
Hrehovcik and Colabella each recorded three kills leading Ramapo to a game three, 25-12 win, taking the match in three straight. Ramapo hit 10-19 with three errors .368 while Purchase hit a combined -.462 with two kills on 13 attempts and eight errors.
On the day, Colabella hit .538 with eight kills on 13 attempts while Hrehovcik and Sidnam each recorded seven. Balint collected 12 assists and Kerschner picked up four digs. Ramapo hit .362 with 31 total kills on 58 attempts.
Edelmann led the Panthers with three kills and Billen-Calhoun dished out seven assists.
Ramapo returns to action on February 5th when they travel to CCNY for a 7pm match-up.
