Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team saw four different players score in double figures in a 78-66 NJAC win over Rutgers-Camden tonight at the Bradley Center.
With the win the Roadrunners improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Rutgers Camden's only lead in the first half was with the opening basket when John Tatem hit a jumper off a dish from Alex Smart. Ramapo tied it up with a basket from
Loren Jackson, and took the lead with a two-point goal from
Jermaine Emanuel. With 15:46 on the clock, Rutgers Camden's Shaliek Johnson, tied up the ball game for the fifth time, 10-10, before a 7-0 Ramapo run put the Roadrunners up, 17-10 with 13:10 to play in the half. The closest the Scarlet Raptors would come would be at 11:59, when two free throws from Robert Anders, closed the gap to five points, 12-17. Ramapo would run away with the remainder of the first half, gaining their biggest lead, 43-26, with just 1:15 to go, when
George Sapp sank two free throws. Rutgers Camden would string together five points to close out the half, heading into the locker room with a 12-point deficit to Ramapo, 31-43. Sapp led the Roadrunners with nine first half points, as the team combined hitting 16-33 (49%) from the field. Marcus Taylor recorded a team-high seven points for Rutgers Camden, hitting 2-4 from the field, including a three-point goal. Rutgers Camden shot 11-30 (37%) as a team.
The Scarlet Raptors cut the lead to seven, 43-50, with 14:08 on the clock before Ramapo extended their lead back to 14 on a made jumper by
Joshua Daniell, 59-47 (10:17). Rutgers-Camden would then go on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to five, 56-61, with 6:55 left in the game on a made three pointer from Steven Schneider. The Scarlet Raptors would shrink the lead to five two other times down the stretch, the final time with 3:30 left on the clock on two made foul shots from Russell, 65-60. Ramapo went on a mini 5-0 run capped off by Hicks and-one play to take a ten point lead, 70-60 (2:16). Ramapo would end the game on an 8-6 run as they scored the final four points in the game.
Ramapo was led by Nock and Hicks who each scored 13 points while Jackson tallied a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Sapp ended the game with ten points and three assists while Nock posted seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. The Ramapo defense forced 22 Rutgers-Camden turnovers in the game. The Roadrunners shot 43% (28-64) from the field and 73% (19-26) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, December 7th, when they host NJAC rival Montclair State University at 3pm at the Bradley Center on the Mahwah campus.
