Box Score Jersey City, NJ: The Lady Roadrunners dropped a tough 2-3 decision today to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer match-up. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 3-3 overall, 0-2 in the NJAC. New Jersey City improves to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Roadrunners held a slight 15-14 advantage in shots but were unable to capitalize falling short by one goal in the conference match-up.
Angelica Glover gave the Gothic Knights a 1-0 lead just under six minutes into the game off a cross from Chelsea Spethmann, before Ramapo's
Melanie Bertoli knocked in the game tying goal at 19:00 flat. The goal was assisted by rookie
Nicole Ninomiya.
NJCU posted an additional first half goal from Kaitlyn Lima, off an assist from Brianna Taylor and Spethmann, to take a 2-1 lead before the halftime buzzer. The Gothic Knights out shot Ramapo, 9-7 in the first half while Ramapo net minder
Talia Auslin made two saves.
In the final half of play, where Ramapo held an 8-5 advantage in shots, the Gothic Knights struck first putting away a goal at 59:02. Ramapo's
Catherine Giancaspro made a last effort for the Roadrunners posting a point at 81:24. But NJCU's Brittany Hoffman held the net clear earning NJCU the 3-2 conference victory.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Rutgers Newark for a noon conference natch-up.
