Union, NJ: The #2 seeded Ramapo College men's volleyball team earned a 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 25-10, 15-11) victory over #3 NJCU in the semi-finals of the 2012 Skyline Champinship Tournament today, before falling short to the #1 seeded Cougars of Kean University in the final match-up, 0-3 (21-25, 18-25, 23-25).
The Roadrunners fell behind, 1-2 in sets before fighting back to earn the 3-2 victory over rival New Jersey City University in their first math-up of the Skyline Championship tournament. Sophomore
Brian Colabella led Ramapo in the five set match-up hitting .464 with 14 kills on 28 attempts and only one error, while seniors
Paul Konopacki and
Colin McNeill each chipped in 12 kills of their own.
Joel Castro and
Jeff Jones added eight kills each and
Andrew Balint dished out 33 assists in the win.
Harsh Prajapati contributed 13 assists and
Aaron Kerschner led the defense with 17 digs. As a team Ramapo went 54-138 hitting .254.
In the final match with Kean University, and a trip to the NCAA Champinship on the line, the Roadrunners dropped a tough 0-3 match-up to the Cougars. Colabella again led Ramapo hitting .381 with 11 kills. Jones added 11 kills of his own and Konopacki chipped in seven. Prajapati assisted on 31 points and Kerschner again led the defense with nine digs. The team hit a combined .133 with 40 total kills.
After the 1-1 day, Ramapo stands at 19-13 overall. The Roadrunners await news of an ECAC bid.
