RAMAPO SPLITS IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE ACTION

Union, NJ:  The Kean University men's volleyball remained undefeated in the Skyline Conference, as the Cougars defeated #13 Ramapo College and Purchase College in a conference quad match on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars (14-4, 10-0 Skyline) sit atop the Skyline standing after defeating Ramapo (11-5, 9-1 Skyline) in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-23), handing the Roadrunners their first conference loss.

In a battle for first place in the Skyline, the Cougars maintained control throughout each of the three sets, as rookie John Cunningham and junior Steve Vahalla combined for 23 kills and just four errors in 46 total attack attempts.  Cunningham finished with 12 kills and five digs, while Vahalla posted 11 kills and seven digs.

Senior Christian Portera also finished with double-digit kills, posting 11 kills and one assisted block.  Rookie Alex Barnhard dished out 35 assists and added four kills, four digs and three assisted blocks.  Classmate Kyle Farley totaled four kills and a team-high four assisted blocks.  Libero Tom Kemmerle finished with a match-high nine digs.

For Ramapo, Jeff Jones finished with 10 kills, while libero Aaron Kerschner had seven digs and setter Andrew Balint dished out 25 assists.

In the Roadrunners second match of the day, Ramapo defeated Sage College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-16). The Gators fell to 12-6, 8-3 in the conference.

Ramapo was led by Jones who tallied 13 kills as he hit .476 while Paul Konopacki added ten kills, hitting .474. Jones added three aces and seven digs while Colin McNeill added five kills and one block. Balint dished out a team high 26 assists while adding one ace and two digs. Kerschner posted a team high 11 digs while Konopacki and Jones each had seven digs.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Bard College on March 7th at 7pm.
