Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team fell to NJAC North rival William Paterson University today at the Bradley Center, 58-55. The Pioneers improve to 19-3, 9-2 in the conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 15-7 overall and 6-5 in the NJAC.
The Pioneers quickly got on the board in the opening seconds of the game with a basket from Julio Rosario and they stayed on top spreading their lead to six, 12-6, with 14:21 to play and a jumper from Jaques Conceicao. Over the next five minutes, Ramapo came within two on two different occasions, a jump shot from
Garret Thiel at 13:42, and a tip-in from
Jermaine Emanuel at 13:09, but the Pioneers sparked a run at 10:50 to earn an eight point edge with a basket from Corey Chandler to go up 22-14. Ramapo forced three turnovers in the games next five minutes and held the Pioneers to just three points, sinking 12 of their own to gain their first lead of the half, 26-25 with just under five minutes to play. The two teams traded baskets until the buzzer heading into the intermission with the game's third tie, 33-33.
Stephon Treadwell led Ramapo with 11 points hitting 4-11 while the team went 13-34 (38%). Chandler and Conceicao each sunk eight points for the Pioneers. The team hit 13-26 (50%) in the half.
The Roadrunners went on a 6-2 run to open the second half and take a four point lead, 39-35 on a jumper by Emanuel before WPU went on 9-2 spurt capped off by a dunk from Nolan Hill (8:50) to take a 44-41 lead. A made jumper by Emanuel and a three pointer by
Will Sanborn put Ramapo back on top, 46-44 with 6:12 to play in the game. The Pioneers tied the game for the sixth time on two made foul shots before they scored five straight points for a four point lead, 51-47 (4:37). The Roadrunners would regain the lead on Thiel's made basket and foul shot, 54-52 (2:25) before WPU hit a jumper by Chandler and a three by Rick DeStefano to go up two, 57-55 with just under a minute to play in the game. The Pioneers were able to hold off the Roadrunners for the 58-55 road win.
Chandler led both teams with 16 points while Julio Rosario and Conceicao posted 11 and ten points respectively for the Pioneers. WPU shot 37% (21-56) from the field while the Roadrunners went 21-59 (35%). Ramapo took 21 shots from beyond the three point line while only making two, they went 11-17 from the foul line (64%). Treadwell led the Roadrunners with 13 points and ten rebounds for his second straight double double. Emanuel Thiel each posted nine points while Sanborn added eight of his own.
Ramapo returns to action on February 11th when they travel to Rutgers Newark, tip-off at 8pm. William Paterson takes on Newark on Wednesday night, February 8th at 8pm.
