Box Score Newark, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2011-2012 NJAC Men's Basketball Tournament with an 85-74 road win against rival Rutgers-Newark University. The Roadrunners improve to 16-7 overall, 7-5 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 13-11, 6-6 in the conference.

Ramapo jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first half on a made layup by Demetrius Boards before the Scarlet Raiders would cut the lead to two, 21-19 on a back to back baskets by Christian Garcia. Ramapo went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to seven, 30-23 on two made free throws by Jermaine Emanuel with 4:39 on the clock. Rutgers-Newark posted back to back baskets cutting the lead to three, 30-27 (3:37) before Garret Thiel and Will Sanborn hit back to back three pointers the last coming with 1:39 left in the half, 36-27. Ramapo would head into the locker room up nine, 38-29.

Ramapo's Stephon Treadwell posted 12 points in the first half while Sanborn tallied eight. The Roadrunners shot 40% (14-35) in the half while they shot 77% (7-9) from the free throw line.

In the second half, Ramapo took their biggest lead in the game when Rich Grant made a jumper to go up, 63-49 (7:52) before the Scarlet Raiders would cut the lead to ten, 72-62 on two good free throws with 4:13 left in the game. Rutgers would come within nine points three times down the stretch the last coming with 19 seconds in the game on a made three by Al'Don Muhammad, 83-74. Sanborn would sink the final two points for the Roadrunners for the 85-74 win.

Treadwell finished the game with 24 points and eight rebounds while Thiel posted a double double with ten rebounds and 15 points. Sanborn tallied 22 points and five rebounds while Boards added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host non-conference foe Hunter College on Tuesday, February 14th at 7:00pm.
