Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Kean University tonight in an NJAC match-up, 60-55. The Roadrunners advance to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC while the Cougars fall to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the NJAC.
The Cougars took an early lead in the game until the Roadrunners tied it up 7-7 by a three pointer by
Will Sanborn assisted by
Stephon Treadwell with 15:15 left to play. Ramapo then went up by two with a jumper by Treadwell, 9-7 14:13 before they went up by four with 9:43 left on the clock with a jumper by
Elvonney Poole, 13-9. The Cougars took a two point lead with back to back three pointers by Tim Steward and Michael Burton, 13-15. Kean went up by four with 6:37 on the clock with a three pointer by Burton before Ramapo regained the lead with a three by Anthony LoRusson assisted by
Stephon Treadwell, 21-20. With Ramapo up by one, 23-22 Kean went on a 10-2 run capped off by a jumper by Kenny Pace with four tics left on the clock to take a 32-25 lead in favor of the cougars.
The Cougars shot 42% (13-31) while the Roadrunners shot 33% (10-30) from the field in the half.
Kean opened the second half keeping the lead going up by five. The Roadrunners came back to tie the game with 10:13 on the clock, 37-37 with a jumper by
Elgin Brown from
Keith Benthall. Ramapo took a one point lead with 7:50 on the clock with a jumper by Brown, 41-40. The Cougars took a three point lead with a jumper by Burton, 46-43 with 5:30 left to play. The Roadrunners'
Will Sanborn got Ramapo to a two point lead with 2:49 left in the half, 53-51 with a deep three pointer. The Cougars tied the game at 1:49 at 55 with two free throws by Frank Nock. Sanborn put the Roadrunners ahead with two free throws with 1:18 left on the clock, 57-55. LoRusso brought the Ramapo to a five point lead shooting a three pointer as the shot clock wound down to one second and 7.6 seconds remained on the game clock causing Kean to call a time out, 60-55. Kean's Burton got a three point shot off with three seconds left that went in and out not allowing Kean to close the gap.
Ramapo shot 40% (21-52) from the field and 71% (12-17) from the foul line in the game. The Cougars shot 39% (20-51) from the field and 64% (9-14) from the foul line. Ramapo's Treadwell had a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds while Brown had 12 points and Sanborn had 11 points respectively. The Cougar's Nock also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Burton had 22 points.
The Roadrunners return to action Saturday, December 1 at 3:00pm when they travel to Rutgers-Camden for an NJAC match-up.
