Box Score Camden, NJ: Ramapo College senior midfielder
Rebecca Maccia scored a first-half goal and added a second-half assist to power the Roadrunners to a 4-0 victory over Rutgers University-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer game here Saturday afternoon.
Ramapo, which has posted two straight shutout victories, improves to 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the NJAC Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-14-1 overall and 0-7-1 with its sixth straight loss. The result marked the 12th shutout in the 14-game series history between the schools. Rutgers-Camden leads the all-time series, 7-5-2.
Maccia notched the only goal the Roadrunners needed at 30:43 when she worked her way around the Raptor defense and into the box from the left of the net. Her shot toward the far side produced her four goal of the season.
Playing against a depleted Rutgers-Camden team which had only three subs, and lost a starter to injury midway through the first half, the Roadrunners wore down the Raptors in the second half to produce three goals. They notched an insurance tally at 65:04 when a shot by junior forward
Katie Popowych was saved by Raptor junior keeper Lauren West. The rebound popped right to the feet of freshman midfielder
Alexa Ragusa near the goal line and she tapped in her second tally of the year.
A few minutes later, a long pass up the center of the field by Maccia sprung Popowych on a breakaway. She worked her way around West, who tried to cut down the play at the top of the box, and scored her third goal of the season into an open net at 69:13.
The Roadrunners' final goal came on a long direct kick from the right side by freshman midfielder
Autumn Herring. She found the far side of the net at 81:50 for her third goal of the season.
Ramapo held a 28-4 advantage in shots, including a 16-3 edge in the second half. The Roadrunners also had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
West made 11 saves for Rutgers-Camden. Junior keeper
Talia Auslin had two saves for the Roadrunners. Both were second-half saves, coming off the feet of juniors Dawn Dixon and Sarah Kooistra.
Both teams conclude their NJAC schedule with home games next Wednesday. The Roadrunners host Montclair State University at 4 p.m., while the Scarlet Raptors entertain New Jersey City University at 6 p.m.
