Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Newark University tonight in NJAC action, 2-0. The Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 6-9-2 overall record and 2-7 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders move to 8-9-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the league.
Ramapo earned the shutout behind two goals from
Amber Maher and the defense of
Madison Miskovitz and
Gabby Matias in goal. In the first five minutes of action each team had great chances to score. For the Roadrunners, Miskovitz made back-to-back saves in goal to keep the Scarlet Raiders off the board before Rutgers-Newark banked a shot off the post as the score held at 0-0.
In the second half, Ramapo was awarded a corner kick in the 65th minute.
Abby Lee sent the ball into the box. After deflecting off a defender, Maher was able to get her body on the ball and push it past the Rutgers-Newark keeper for a 1-0 lead. Maher would tally her third goal of the season and second of the game in the 85th minute as she sent a blast into the upper 90 of the net past the outstretched hands of the keeper, 2-0.
The Roadrunners posted nine shots including five on goal while they posted two corner kicks in the game. Miskovitz posted two key saves in the first 20:35 of the game while
Gabby Matias tallied five in the final 69:25 in the combined shutout. For the Scarlet Raiders, Shaina Sckaett recorded three saves in goal while the team posted seven shots on goal and four corner kicks for the game.
