Will Sanborn led Ramapo College men's basketball team with 28 points, including six three pointers in the game as the Roadrunners defeated visiting NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden University, 87-74. The Roadrunners improve to 15-5 overall, 6-3 in the conference while the Scarlet Raptors drop to 3-16, 1-8 in the NJAC.
The two teams traded baskets until the Roadrunners started to pull away on a ten point run, capped off by
Garret Thiel's two made foul shots at 12:13. The Raptors came within five points on a jumper by Kyle Bowman, 23-18 (10:34) before Ramapo went on an 8-3 run to take a ten-point lead on a three by Thiel at 7:22 (31-21). The Raptors cut it to three, 31-28, when Bowan once again hit another three pointer at 5:05. The Roadrunners started to pull away when
Will Sanborn and
Jermaine Emanuel each hit made a three point basket to go up ten, 40-30. Rutgers Camden would make a three pointer before Thiel hit a jumper and a foul shot, 43-33. With less than seven seconds left Woody Redding stole the ball for the Scarlet Raptors and hit a jumper to head into the locker room only down eight, 43-35.
Ramapo led by as may as 18 twice in the second half (12:08 and 5:29) before they took a their biggest lead of the game, 76-56 on a made basket by Thiel with just under five minutes to go in the game. The Scarlet Raptors went on a 12-5 run capped of by a three pointer by Anthony Solano to shrink the Roadrunners lead to 11, 81-70 with 2:14 on the clock. Ramapo responded by outscoring Rutgers Camden, 6-4 in the final minutes to hold onto the 87-74 win.
Sanborn led all scorers with 28 points, as he was 11-17 from the floor and 6-11 from behind the three-point line. Thiel posted a double double, with a team high 13 rebounds and 21 points along with six assists and three blocks. He also went 12-13 from the foul line.
Stephon Treadwell added 17 points and five rebounds while Emanuel posted 11 points and four assists. The Roadrunners shot 49% from the field, 43% from three-point range and 83% from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 1 as they travel to NJAC rival New Jersey City University at 8:00 pm.
