LADY ROADRUNNERS FALL AT TCNJ

Box Score Ewing, NJ:  The College of New Jersey women's soccer team opened its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule in dominating fashion, defeating Ramapo College 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at TCNJ's Soccer Complex.

Senior Brittany McGinley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and junior Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) each tallied a pair of first half goals spark the Lions to a 3-1 overall mark, 1-0 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners fell to 1-3-2 on the season.

McGinley ignited the fire just under eight minutes into the match when she took a feed from Anderson and drilled a shot that rippled the back of the net.

Minutes later, Anderson found herself on the receiving end of a feed from Sloan DePiero (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) and pushed in her third goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, she blasted a shot into the left pocket of the net to stretch the lead to 3-0.

In the 23rd minute, Anderson ripped a shot from the left side that was saved by Ramapo goalkeeper Talia Auslin (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn). McGinley hit a one-timer off the rebound that was saved by a Roadrunner defender. She promptly collected a second rebound and quickly deposited it between the posts for her third goal of 2011.

TCNJ played well in all areas right from the opening kickoff. They won loose balls and applied constant pressure to the Ramapo defense.

With three minutes left to play in the first half, freshman Gina Caprara (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) scored the first goal of her collegiate career, knocking in a corner kick from senior Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). Less than a minute later, sophomore Katie Lindacher (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp) went in uncontested and slipped her third goal of the season past the goalkeeper.

Following the intermission, a pair of rookies notched their first collegiate tallies just 21 seconds apart. Freshman Sam Barbeito (Edison, NJ/Wardlaw Hartridge) cashed in on a rebound in front to make it a 7-0 score. Classmate Christiana Nielson (Easton, PA/Easton) then intercepted a pass and went in one-on-one with the keeper and calmly slotted a well-placed shot for her first career goal.

Freshman Cristina Gacos (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) earned her third win of the season in goal, teaming up with Allison Pungello (Princeton, Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) for the combined shutout.

TCNJ outshot Ramapo 38-2 in the game. Auslin had nine saves in goal for the Roardrunners.

Following their season-opening loss, the Lions have responded with three straight victories and have outscored their opponents 14-0 during that stretch.
