Colleen Steel scored what turned out to be the game winner to give Ramapo a 13-11 victory over conference rival Farmingdale State in a Skyline Conference match-up at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. With the victory, the Roadrunners improve to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Farmingdale falls to 7-4 and gets their first conference loss falling to 5-1.
Sophomore
Adrianna Tepedino opened the scoring in the first half of play giving Ramapo a 1-0 edge just 2:38 into the game before
Amanda Barretta put Ramapo up two goals to none off a free position shot under a minute later. Emily Williams got Farmingdale on the board at 7:29 but Tepedino responded with her second goal of the game to lead, 3-1. Krystin Shand put a goal of her own in the back of the net at 12:46 to come within one, but Ramapo responded with three straight to grab a 6-2 advantage with 17 minutes to play in the half. Farmingdale State's Carly Schneider put the Rams within one, 6-5 with three straight goals before Barretta beat the clock and netted her second of the day to give Ramapo a 7-5 lead at the half.
Ramapo out shot the Rams, 21-12 in the first 30 minutes of play while rookie Rebecca Elliot made three saves in only her second collegiate appearance. Courtney Cook made six saves in goal for the Rams.
The two teams traded goals in the opening 11 minutes of the second half before Steel gave Ramapo an 11-7 advantage with 22 minutes left to play. Farmingdale's Emily Williams sparked and capped off a 4-0 run taking control of the game earning the tie at 11-11. Jenna Pfarr put away the final goal of the game giving Ramapo the 13-11 win.
Elliott made five saves in the half while her team took 12 shots. Cook blocked two of her own and Farmingdale added 14 shots in the second half outshooting Ramapo by a slim two.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 16th when they travel to Bard College for a 1pm start.
