Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners earned a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-23) sweep tonight over the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Associate Metro Division match-up. Ramapo improves to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference while EMU falls to 8-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Rookie setter
Andrew Balint dished out 26 assists on the night as
Joel Castro led the team's offensive attack with 12 kills.
Paul Konopacki put away eight kills and
Andrew Brown added six in the win. The team hit .186 on the night combining for 39 kills on 97 attempts with 21 errors.
Kevin McNerney led the defense with nine digs and Castro added four blocks on the night. Chris Moise led the Royals with nine kills and Nolan Prock added seven while the team went 24-80 with 21 errors hitting .038. Augusto Lau dished out 21 assists and Prock led the defense with 11 digs.
In the first game of the match-up, the Roadrunners earned a 25-14 victory to take a one set lead over the Royals. The team combined hitting .478 with 14 kills on 23 attempts and only three errors as Brown led the way with four kills. Konopacki added three kills to the offensive attack while Balint assisted on ten points in the win. Moise led the Royals with three kills and the team hit -.158 with four total kills on 19 attempts with seven errors. Lau dished out three assists.
Despite falling behind 3-0 at the start of game two, the Roadrunners took a 2-0 match lead dropping the Royals, 26-24 behind five kills from Castro. Balint added another ten assists to the game as the team hit a combined -.025 with 11 kills on 40 attempts with 12 errors. The Royals went 8-31 with seven errors hitting ahead of Ramapo at .032. Moise led the way with three kills and Lau dished out eight assists. Prock led the Royals' defense with seven digs while McNerney picked up five for Ramapo.
In the final set of the night the Roadrunners hit .235 with 14 kills on 34 attempts with six errors as Castro led the way with five kills and Konopacki added four in the win. Balint and
Mike Hrehovcik split the setting duties with six assists each. Prock led the Royals with four kills as the team went 12-30 with seven errors hitting .167.
The Roadrunners return to action on February 19th when they travel to Rivier College for a tri-match-up with Rivier and Lesley University at 11am and 1pm respectively.
