CASTRO LEADS RAMAPO TO 3-1 VICTORY OVER NJCU IN NECVA METRO MATCH-UP

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team played host to NECVA Metro rival, New Jersey City University today at the Bradley Center where they posted a 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22) victory before earning a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-16) sweep over Lancaster Bible. With the victories the Roadrunners improve to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the NECVA Metro Conference.

Sophomore Joel Castro led the Roadrunners to their sixth win of the season hitting .607 with 18 kills on 28 attempts and only one hitting error. Senior Andrew Brown and junior Paul Konopacki chipped in 15 kills each as the team combined for 62 kills on 150 attempts with 22 errors hitting .267. Junior Mike Hrehovcik dished out a team high 54 assists and senior Kevin McNerney led the defense with 13 digs. Colin McNeill picked up ten digs and added two service aces to the win. The Gothic Knights hit .192 as a team with 46 total kills as Kenny Lisk led the way with 21 of his own. Rich Boyle added 11 kills and Jorge Rodriguez assisted on 43 points while Chris Edra picked up 17 digs on the day.

The Roadrunners dropped the first set, 25-23, hitting .122 with 14 kills on 41 attempts with nine errors, behind the Gothic Knights who went 13-34 with only five errors hitting .235. Lisk led the team with eight kills and Rodriguez assisted on 12 points, while Edra led the defense with seven digs. Brown led the offensive attack with six kills hitting .600 and McNerney picked up five digs in the loss.

Ramapo fought back to tie the match at one set apiece with a game two, 25-21 victory behind four kills each from Castro and Konopacki. Castro hit a perfect 4-4 while Konopack recorded his four kills on eight attempts hitting .500. Hrehovcik dished out 12 assists in the game. The team combined for 12 kill with only three errors while the Gothic Knights recorded 15 kills on 30 attempts with eight errors hitting .233. Ramapo hit .360 as a team. Lisk led NJCU again with seven kills and Rodriguez added 14 assists.

Behind five kills from Castro and four each from Konopacki and rookie Jeff Jones, the Roadrunners took set three, 25-15, as the team hit .385 with 17 total kills on 39 attempts with only two errors. Hrehovcik added 13 assists and Colin McNeill picked up four digs in the win. NJCU hit a combined .115 with eight kills on 26 attempts with five errors. Lisk was held to three kills and Rich Boyle added three of his own while Edra picked up a team high four digs.

In what turned out to be the final set of the match, Ramapo posted a 25-22 win behind Castro's seven kills. Brown and Konopacki added four additional kills each while Hrehovcik dished out 17 assists. McNerney picked up five digs and the team combined for 19 kills in the win. Lisk, Boyle, and Michal Kucza each put away three kills in the game and Rodriguez added nine assists in the loss.

In the second match-up of the day, the Gothic Knights (4-4 overall, 1-4 NECVA Metro) took game one, 25-23, before earning a two set lead with a game two, 25-20 win. The Gothic Knights combined for 13 kills in the first game before adding an additional 15 in the second. NJCU hit .222 and .294 respectively behind seven kills each from Boyle and Kucza in the two games combined. Rodriguez dished out 13 assists. Jesse Corbin led the Chargers with seven kills of his own as the team went 14-35 (.171) with eight errors and 10-38 (.053) with eight errors respectively. The Chargers fought back to earn a game three, 25-15 victory to close the gap, two sets to one. Justin Perkins led the Chargers with four kills as the team hit a combined .190 with ten kills on 21 attempts and six errors. NJCU hit a negative .074 recorded eight hitting errors with six kills on 27 attempts. Lisk led the team with three total kills. NJCU took the match with a game four, 25-16 win behind six kills from Lisk and five from Kucza. The team hit .654 in the final game with 19 total kills on 26 attempts with two errors. Rodriguez dished out 17 assists and Edra led the defense with four digs. AJ Longacre led the Chargers with three kills in the loss. On the day, Lisk led NJCU with 16 total kills while Kucza added 13 and Boyle added ten of his own. The team went 53-123 with 20 errors finishing the day hitting .268. Rodriguez assisted on 50 total points and Edra wrapped up the win with 15 digs. Corbin led the Chargers with 11 kills as the team put away a combined 46. Lancaster hit .183 while BJ Boosz assisted on 35 points. Boosz led the defense with 15 digs.

The Roadrunners opened the second match with a game one, 25-14 win over the Chargers of Lancaster (0-12 overall, 0-7 NECVA Metro), behind a perfect 7-7 from Jones. Rookie Nick Hrehovcik recorded four kills of his own as the team hit a combined 19-33 with six errors (.394). M. Hrehovcik started the game and dished out seven assists before rookie Harsh Prajapati took over the setting duties contributing eight to the win. Longacre led the Chargers with three kills as the team combined for seven kills on 18 attempts with three errors.

With five kills each from Brown and rookie Mike Kane, the Roadrunners went up two sets to none with a game two, 25-18, win. Prajapati added 11 assists and Brown recorded two service aces as the team hit .387 with 16 kills on 31 attempts with four errors. Dan McAllister led the Chargers with four kills and the team put away seven hitting .095 on 21 attempts with four errors.

The Roadrunners wrapped up that day taking the third set, 25-16 with the team combining for 12 kills on 21 attempts with three errors. N. Hrehovcik and Jones led the way with three kills each while M. Hrehovcik dished out ten assists. Aaron Kerschner led the team's defense with four digs. Lancaster hit a negative .143 as a team with four kills on 21 attempts with seven errors.

On the day, Jones led the way with ten kills and N. Hrehovcik added seven kills of his own while Kane finished the day with six. M. Hrehovcik assisted on 20 points and Prajapati added 19 of his own while M. Hrehovcik led the defense with six digs. The team hit a combined .400 with 47 kills on 85 attempts with 13 errors. The Chargers went 18-60 with 15 errors hitting .050. McAllister led the way with six kills and Boosz dished out 13 assists.

Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, February 15th when they travel to Baruch College for a 7pm match-up.
