NJCU DOWNS RAMAPO, 81-69 IN NJAC ACTION

Jersey City, NJ: The Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University downed #22 Ramapo College men's basketball team tonight, 81-69. The Gothic Knights improve to 15-8, 7-4 in the conference while the Roadrunners fall to 18-5, 9-2 in the NJAC.

The Gothic Knights and Roadrunners each had three players score in double figures on the night. For Ramapo, Ahmad Hassan tallied a team high 16 points while Anthony LoRusso and Demetrius Boards each added 15 points a piece. For NJCU, Da'Shon Barrino scored a game high 17 points while Keith Williams and James Livingston added 16 and 13 points respectively. The Roadrunners shot 30% from the floor (21-69), 22% from behind the three point line (2-9) and 64% from the charity stripe (25-39). NJCU shot 47% from the floor (25-53), 33% from behind the three point line (3-9) and 75% from the foul line (28-37).

The Gothic Knights held a three point lead in the first half, 7-4 (16:11) before Ramapo would take their only lead of game, 8-9 (14:53) before NJCU took the lead back on two made foul shots by Taquan Abdullah, 10-9 with 14:30 remaining in the half. They started to pull away with 8:08 left in the half when they went on a 11-2 run capped off by two made foul shots by Keith Williams to take a 12 point lead, 32-20 with 5:22 on the clock. Ramapo cut the lead to six (28-34) with 3:05 on the clock on a jumper by Boards before NJCU stretched the lead to ten (40-30) with 1:44 in the half. Ramapo scored the final six points of the first half to cut the lead to six, 36-42 in favor of NJCU going into the locker room.

NJCU did not lose the lead in the second half on their way to their eighth win in a row. NJCU led by eight points early in the first half before Ramapo cut the lead to three with 16:39 to go on a made three pointer by Hassan before LoRusso cut the lead to one on a made layup, 45-47 with 15:47 on the clock. NJCU then built a 11 point lead (62-51) with 6:54 left in the half on a made jumper by Da'Shon Barrino. They would hold a ten point lead from the 4:06 mark on the clock until the end of the game. NJCU's biggest lead was 15 points, which they held three times in the final two minutes of play and the latest coming with 30 seconds left in the game on a made layup by Barrino, 81-66 before Hassan drained a three point shot with ten seconds remaining, 81-69.

Ramapo returns to action on Monday, February 14th at 7:30 PM when they host NJAC rival William Paterson University.
