LADY ROADRUNNERS COMPETE AT HUNTER INVITATIONAL

New York, NY:  The Ramapo College women's volleyball team traveled to the 2011 Hunter College Invitational Tournament on Friday and Satruday. The Roadrunners raise their record to 26-6 overall, setting a new program mark for wins in a season.

Ramapo defeated host Hunter College on Friday night, 3-2 (28-26, 14-25, 25-18, 16-25, 18-16) and Ithaca College, 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 16-25, 25-18) before falling to #19 SUNY Cortland, 3-0 (20-25, 11-25, 12-25) and Elmira College, 2-3 (25-21, 27-25, 14-25, 28-26, 12-15).

Michelle Ferrari led the Roadrunner in the win over Hunter with 21 kills while Deandra Black tallied 11 kills and two blocks. Julia Tuzio and Sara Pendleton each posted nine kills a piece while Tuzio added five assists, 15 digs and three blocks. Tiffany Fischer recorded 45 assists, four service aces and ten digs while Elizabeth Steck posted a team high 21 digs.

In the win against Ithaca, Ferrari once again led the team with 15 kills and 13 digs while Black posted eight kills and Pendleton added six kills and six total blocks, three solo. Elizabeth Steck and Alexandra Kratochvil posted 25 and 12 digs respectively while Fisher dished out 29 assists and posted three service aces and nine digs. The Roadrunner won the four-set match despite three Boomers recording double-digit kills.

The 3-0 loss to #19 SUNY Cortland snapped the Roadrunners 19-match win streak. Ferrari posted ten kills while Black added five of her own. Fischer posted 14 assists and two digs while Steck added a team high 14 digs. In the exciting 3-1 loss to Elmira, in their final match of the day, the Roadrunners were once again led by Ferrari with 15 kills while Allison DiAngelo added 11 kills on 25 attempts as she hit .440. Fischer dished out 39 assists while adding 13 digs, one block and one service ace. Black posted nine kills, three digs and two blocks while Pendleton added seven kills on 22 attempts hitting .318. She posted nine total blocks, three solo while Steck led the team with 32 digs.

Ramapo returns to action this Thursday in the semi-final of the 2011 NJAC Women's Volleyball Tournament at the Bradley Center. They will host the winner of  first round game, #3 Rowan vs. #6 William Paterson University at 7pm.
