RAMAPO POWERS PAST POLYTECHNIC, DROPS NECVA MATCH-UP TO STEVENSON

Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo improved to 3-4 overall on the year with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) sweep of the Fighting Bluejays of NYU-Polytechnic today in a non-conference men's volleyball match-up at the Bradley Center, before dropping a 3-1 match to the Brewers of Stevenson University in a NECVA Metro match-up. Ramapo falls to 3-5 overall, 1-2 in the conference.

Rookie Jeff Jones hit .400 and recorded a team leading six kills, along with Andrew Brown and Paul Konopacki, while junior captain Colin McNeill led the team hitting .500, recording five kills in the win. Andrew Balint finished the match with 18 assists while senior Kevin McNerney led the team's defense with five digs. Ramapo hit .269 combined with 36 kills on 78 attempts and 15 hitting errors. Polytechnic went 11-48 with 14 errors hitting -.062 in the loss. Joe Gabor and Flid Kroqi each contributed four kills in the match.

The Roadrunners went up 1-0 after the first set behind three kills each from Konopacki and Jones. Ramapo hit .292 in the ten-point, 25-15 win with 11 kills and four errors on 24 attempts. Balint dished out nine assists. Polytechnic hit -.176 with a team combined two kills on 17 attempts and five errors. Ramapo went up two sets to none with a 25-13 game two win as the team hit .364 with 12 kills on 22 attempts and only four errors. Jones and McNeill led the offensive attack with three kills each and Balint added an additional nine assists in the win. Poly went 3-15 with six hitting errors in the loss. In what turned out to be the final set of the match, the Roadrunners earned a 25-17 win with a team total 13 kills and seven errors on 32 attempts. Brown recorded four kills and Joel Castro added three to the game. Harsh Pajapati assisted on nine points in the final set. Polytechnic hit .188 in the final set with James Lukban dishing out six assists.

Stevenson University defeated the Fighting blue Jays, 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18) in the second match-up of the day behind 14 kills from Kalani Soeda. With the win, Stevenson remains undefeated at 6-0 overall. Polytechnic falls to 0-4 on the year. Stevenson recorded a team total 47 kills on 116 attempts with 20 errors while Polytechnic hit .067 with 30 kills on 104 attempts and 23 errors. Christian Woznicki recorded ten kills and six digs in the win and Adam Thatcher dished out 33 assists. Trevor Parham led the defense with eight total digs. Polytechnic's Gabor and Kroqi each recorded a team leading ten kills while Lukban contributed 26 assists in the loss. Tom Poppenberg led the defense with 15 digs.

Ramapo opened up their second match-up of the day with a 25-13 win over the Brewers of Stevenson University. The Roadrunners combined for nine kills on 16 attempts with two errors hitting .438 while Stevenson went 8-26 with ten errors hitting -.077. Konopacki, Castro, Jones, and McNeill each recorded two kills and Balint started the match dishing out eight assists. Austin Jacoby and Jon Martin led the Brewers with three kills each and Kyle Diller contributed eight assists in the game one loss.

The match went 1-1 after Stevenson earned a 25-22 game two win behind six kills from Martin and three each from Jacoby and Soeda. The team hit .258 with 13 kills on 31 attempts and five errors while Ramapo went 11-27 with eight errors hitting .111. McNeill and Jones each recorded three kills and Balint added ten assists. Diller dished out 11 assists for Stevenson and Thatcher led the defense with five digs.

The Roadrunners dropped the third set, 25-18 to fall behind 1-2 in the match-up. Stevenson hit .444 ahead of the Roadrunners .222. The Brewers combined for 14 kills with only two errors on 27 attempts as Ramapo hit a combined 12 kills on 27 attempts with six errors. Jacoby led Stevenson with six kills and Martin and Soeda added three each while Diller dished out 11 assists. Martin led the defense with three digs. Jones led Ramapo's offensive attack with four kills and Balint assisted on 11 points for the Roadrunners. McNerney led the defense with four digs.

The match went to Stevenson after a 25-23 win in game four behind six kills from Ron Kryger as the team hit .077 with 12 kills on 30 attempts and nine errors. Diller dished out 11 assists and Thatcher led the defense with five digs. Ramapo's Castro and McNeill led the team with four kills each Balint finished the day with 11 assists. McNerney added six digs in the game four loss.

On the night, Martin finished with 14 kills and Jacoby added 13 while the team hit .171 with 47 total kills on 123 attempts with 26 errors. Diller dished out 41 assists and Thatcher led the defense with 14 digs. Martin picked up ten digs of his own. Jones and McNeill led the Roadrunners' offensive attack with 11 kills each as the team combined for 44 kills with 113 attempts and 27 errors. Balint finished the day with 40 assists and McNerney wrapped up the match with 12 digs. With the win, Stevenson remains undefeated at 7-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference.

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 2nd when they host Lehman College at 7pm at the Bradley Center.
