BACKLUND LEADS RAMAPO OVER #4 BARUCH

Mahwah, NJ: Rookie Kevin Froehlich (Ringwood, NJ) led the Ramapo College men's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Stevens University, before sophomore Josh Castillo (Garfield, NJ) leads the team to a 3-0 sweep over #4 Baruch College to improve to 17-7 overall.

Match 1: Ramapo 3 – Stevenson 0
Froehlich hit .545 with 13 kills leading the Roadrunners to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-17) victory over the Mustangs of Stevenson University while fellow rookie Steve Vahalla (Bloomfield, NJ) added 11 kills on 18 attempts with three errors hitting .444. The team combined for 53 total kills on 94 attempts with 14 errors hitting .415 in the win. Josh Castillo (Garfield, NJ) chipped in eight kills and Colin McNeill (Little Falls, NJ) contributed six in two games played, and senior setter Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) assisted on 48 kills in the match-up. Defensive specialist Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led the way with ten digs and Scott contributed eight. Vahalla, Scott, and Paul Konopacki (Monroe Twp., NJ) each recorded two blocks in the win.

The Mustangs were led by Jason Matkowski (Warminster, PA) with eight kills and David Lloyd (Germantown) chipped in six, while the team combined for 32, hitting .149 in the loss. Dean Massimini (Washington Twp., NJ) dished out 22 assists and led the defense with seven digs. Lloyd added seven digs of his own.

Match 2: Baruch 3 – Stevenson 0
The Bearcats of Baruch College defeated Stevenson in the second match of the day, with a clean sweep, (30-27, 30-19, 30-17). Baruch's Pablo Oliveria (Brazil) and Eryk Kowalski (Poland) each had nine kills while Kirill Yagnetinsky (Brooklyn, NY) tallied eight kills. Ivan Andujar recorded 42 assists in the match

Stevenson was led Massimini's 19 assists and Matkowski's 11 kills while Kyle Diller (Chambersburg, PA) led the way with six digs.

Match 3: Ramapo 3 - Baruch 0
Castillo recorded 15 kills, hitting .312 to lead the Roadrunners to a 30-26, 30-23, 30-26 victory over the Bearcats. Vahalla recorded 11 kills of his own on 20 attempts with five errors, hitting .300 while the team combined for 47 kills on 109 attempts with 20 errors, hitting .248 in the win. Scott dished out 39 assists while Backland controlled the defense 15 digs. Froehlich chipped in 11 digs and two blocks while Castillo, Konopacki and junior Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) each contributed three blocks in the match. Cabrera and Konopacki recorded seven kills each and Froehlich added six of his own.

For the Bearcats Santos Rivera (Carolina, PR) led the team with 11 kills while Oliveria added ten in the loss. The team combined with a total 31 kills on 114 attempts with 27 errors hitting .035. Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, PR) led the team's defense with 14 digs while Yagnetinskiy  put down four total blocks. Andujar dished out 29 assists in the match.

 The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, March 24th when they travel to Philadelphia Biblical University for a 7:00pm start.
