Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) was named to the Endicott Tournament All-Tournament team for his efforts this weekend in Beverly, Massachusetts. Backlund led his team to a 3-1 weekend, wrapping up the tournament today with a 3-1 win over SUNY New Paltz, and a 3-0 sweep over Emmanuel College to improve to 12-4 overall on the year.
Match 1: Ramapo 3 - SUNY New Paltz 1 (29-31, 30-26, 30-24, 30-28)
Backlund opened the day recording 13 digs in the team's win over New Paltz while sophomore
Edward Rossiter (Edison, NJ) led the team's defense with 14 digs of his own. Ramapo's offensive attack was led by rookie
Kevin Froehlich (Ringwood, NJ) who hit .333 with 19 kills on 45 attempts. Fellow rookie
Steve Vahalla (Bloomfield, NJ) added 17 kills of his own while junior
Jeff Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) chipped in ten kills in the win. Senior setter
Matt SCott (Edison, NJ) dished out 56 assists while adding nine digs. Elsasser and
Colin McNeill (Little Falls, NJ) each contributed five blocks while Vahalla added four of his own. The Roadrunners combined for 71 kills in the match hitting .327 with 23 errors on 147 attempts. Jake Moore led New Paltz with 19 kills and Mike Fink led the team's defense with 15 digs. New Paltz hit .196 in the match with 56 kills on 143 attempts and 28 errors.
Match 2: Ramapo 3 - Emmanuel 0 (34-32, 30-24, 30-28)
Backlund came up big again in the team's second match-up of the day, leading the Roadrunners' defense with 12 digs. Vahalla and Elsasser combined efforts on the team's offensive attack recording 13 kills each, 26 of the team's 46 in the match. Ramapo hit .198 in the win, a slight advantage over Emmanuel's .144, 43 kills on 111 attempts with 27 errors.
Paul Konopacki (Monroe Twp., NJ) contributed nine kills on offensive while delivering eight total blocks, including two solo, on defense. Scott added seven total blocks, three solo, while assisting on 43 points. Emmanuel was led by Curtis Abram with 11 kills and Tyson Rietz chipped in ten. Taylor Lowe dished out 33 assists in the loss.
The Roadrunners will travel to Sacred Heart University when they return to action on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.
