Colin McNeill (Little Falls, NJ) led the Ramapo College men's volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-15, 31-29, 30-16) sweep over SUNYIT to improve to 10-3 overall on the year, before the Roadrunners dropped a 3-0 match-up with MIT, (22-30, 24-30, 28-30) on day one of the 5th Annual Endicott Tournament. With the loss, the Roadrunners fall to 10-4.
Match 1: Ramapo 3 – SUNYIT 0
McNeill hit .636 in the match with a team leading right kills on 11 attempts and only one error. McNeill recorded five assisted blocks along with senior setter
Matt Scott (Edison, NJ). Scott dished out 39 assists and picked up three digs in the win. Rookies
Brett Greiner (Northport, NY) and
Steve Vahalla (Bloomfield, NJ) chipped in seven and six kills respectively, while defensive specialist
Edward Rossiter (Edison, NJ) led the team's defense with nine digs.
Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) added six digs and two service aces to the effort.
The team combined hitting .366 with 50 kills on 93 attempts and 16 errors while SUNYIT went 19-79 with 23 errors hitting -.051. Ryan Meller led SUNYIT with eight kills and Jonathan Brochu dished out 16 assists in the loss. Alex Rahmel led the defense with 12 digs.
Match 2: Ramapo 0 – MIT 3
Sophomore
Josh Castillo (Garfield, NJ) led the team with nine kills while junior middle
Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) and Froehlich each added eight to the mix. Scott added 34 more assists on the day with three total blocks, one solo. Backlund and Rossiter led the team's defense with 14 and ten digs respectively.
Paul Konopacki (Monroe Twp., NJ) recorded seven of the team's 39 kills. Ramapo went 39-105 with 22 errors hitting .162.
MIT recorded 51 kills as a team with Matt Hohenberger leading the way with 15. Tim Lee dished out 49 assists and Eric Reuland led the defense with 11 digs.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they face off with SUNY New Paltz at 1pm on day two of the Endicott Tournament.
