Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team fell to the Scarlet Raiders from Rutgers-Newark, 65-59. The Roadrunners fall to 17-8 overall and 7-6 in the NJAC while Scarlet Raiders improves to 19-6 and 9-4 in the conference.
In the first half the Scarlet Raiders jumped out to a 12-2 lead capped off on a dunk by James Johnson. Ramapo came back with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 12-10 with a made jumper by senior
Isaiah Lynch (Linden, NJ) with 13:18. Ramapo cut the lead to one, 15-14 on a jumper by
Jairo Cruz (Union City, NJ) with 9:18. Rutgers-Newark stretched the lead to eight, 30-22 on a made basket by Tim Smith with 2:43 to go before senior
Andre Kenny (Jersey City, NJ) cut the lead to five with a made basket and foul shot, 30-25. Kenny made a jumper with 2:00 minutes on the clock before sophomore
Davian Plunkett (Paterson, NJ) sunk two foul shots to cut the lead to one, 30-29. The Scarlet Raiders made one more shot in the half before Ramapo scored a basket with 28 seconds left, 32-31.
The Roadrunners shot 27% (8-29) from the field while the Scarlet Raiders shot 45% (11-24).
Ramapo took a four point lead 19:25 into the second half on a jumper by Kenny before the Scarlet Raiders stretched the lead to seven, 44-37 with 12:59 to play on a made jumper by Ralph Jones.
Anthony LoRusso (Mahwah, NJ) hit a three pointer for Ramapo to tie the game at 46 with 9:54 to go in the half.
Singleton would stretch the lead back to eight points with on a foul shot with 4:38, 58-50. The Roadrunners would go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to one, 58-57 with 1:22 to go in the game. The Scarlet Raiders scored the next five points, 63-57 before Kenny made a layup with nine seconds to go in the game, 63-59. Al-Don Muhammad would make the final points of the game on back to back foul shots to secure the win for Rutgers-Newark, 65-59.
For the Roadrunners, Kenny tallied 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Plunkett posted a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. LoRusso and sophomore
Garret Thiel (Middletown, NJ) each scored eight points while Theil pulled down five boards.
Singleton tallied 13 points while Greg Moore posted 16 of his own. James Johnson recorded 11 points and pulled down three boards. Rutgers-Newark shot 39% from the field to Ramapo's 32%.

Ramapo earns the #3 seed in the north division in the 2010 NJAC Tournament while Rutgers-Newark secured the second seed. Ramapo now travel to #2 Rowan University on Saturday for a 4:00 PM match-up. The Scarlet Raiders will host #3 Kean University on the same day.
