Salisbury, MD: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Anna Maria College, 91-72 in the consolation game of the Optimist Classic hosted by Salisbury University. The Roadrunners improve to 6-1 on the season while the Amcats fall to 2-5.
Sophomore
Travis Conyers led the Roadrunners with 19 points and juniors
LaQuan Peterkin and
Ahmad Hassan each recorded 18 points. Peterkin grabbed eight rebounds while Hassan recorded seven of his own and sunk three three-pointers in the game. Sophomore
Stephon Treadwell posted a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds while
Anthony LoRusso added 12 points while dishing out six assists and three steals.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 8-0 lead capped off by a tip-in by junior
Elgin Brown before Anna Maria made their first basket at 15:45 (8-3). The Roadrunners took their biggest lead of the half (29-13) on a made lay up by Brown before Anna Maria cut the lead to nine with 2:58 to go in the half with a three-pointer (35-26). The Roadrunners and Amcats traded baskets down the stretch before Ramapo took a 13-point lead (45-32) on a made lay up by
Travis Conyers with 33 seconds remaining. The Roadrunners shot 51% from the field in the first half and was perfect from the foul line (7-7).
Ramapo didn't look back in the second half as they stretched their lead to 17 points with 18:18 to go in the game on a made basket by LoRusso. Anna Maria shrunk the lead to ten (59-49) with 14:21 on two made foul shots by Junior De La Hoz before Ramapo jumped back out to a 20 point lead at 8:19 on a made basket by Brown. Their biggest lead of the game was at 84-62 with 5:26 remaining on a made foul shot by LoRusso. Anna Maria went on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 85-72 with 2:35 to go in the game. Ramapo closed out the game on a 6-0 run for a 91-72 victory.
The Roadrunners shot 48% from the field (36-75) in the game while they shot 83.3% from the foul line (15-18). They also made four of 11 from behind the three-point line.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 8th at 7:00 PM when they travel to New York City College of Technology.
