Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team, led by
Ahmad Hassan, earned a 68-64 victory over the Ospreys of Stockon today at the Bradley Center to improve to 8-1 overall, 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Stockton falls to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Hassan finished the day with 21 points including 5-5 from the charity stripe while he sunk four three-point goals.
Elgin Brown recorded a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds while
Stephon Treadwell added nine points in the win. Treadwell grabbed a team high 11 boards and AJ LoRusso assisted on a team high six baskets.. The team shot 40% in the game shooting 23-57 from the field. Nnamdi Usuwa led the Ospreys with a double-double of his own that included 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kai Massaquoi chipped in 13 points and Kevin Johnson added 11. Pat Kelly dished out four assists while the team hit 38% of their shots shooting 23-60.
The score changed seven times in the opening 9:30 minutes of the game before Stockton's DiAndre Brown sparked a 5-0 run with two free throws to give the Ospreys a 22-17 lead with 7:11 on the clock.
Jairo Cruz hit a jump shot and the Roadrunners strung together an additional ten points to put Ramapo up, 27-22 with just under four minutes to play. Hassan capped off the run with a three-point goal and an and-one basket. The Ospreys came within one point, 27-26, with three points from Johnson and a free throw from Adam Floyd, before Floyd hit the back end of his two-shot foul to tie the game for the fifth time, 27-27. With seven seconds to play, Hassan drained a three-point goal to go up 33-29 at the half time buzzer. Ramapo combined hitting 10-25 (40%) behind ten points from Hassan and five each from Brown and
Travis Conyers. Brown pulled down four boards and Conyers dished out two assists. The Ospreys hit ten of their 26 field goal attempts (39%) in the half. Massaquoi led the team with ten points and Kelly dished out two assists.
Brown hit a layup at the start of the second half to give the Roadrunners a six-point advantage, but the Ospreys took over control of the ball and strung together a mini 4-0 run to come within two, 35-33, with a jump shot from Usuwa. The Roadrunners went up six again with points from
LaQuan Peterkin and Brown, before a Stockton 6-2 run, sparked by Mike Pendleton, tied the game for the sixth time at 41. After the game's seventh tie, 49-49, which came with 7:30 remaining in the game, the lead changed four times before Hassan hit a basket from behind the arc which sparked a 10-2 Roadrunner run to gain a seven point, 64-57 advantage with 39 seconds remaining on the clock. The closest the Ospreys would come is within four points when Kelly hit a three-point goal in the final seconds to end the game, 68-64 behind Ramapo. Brown sunk 12 second half points for Ramapo and Hassan added 11, while LoRusso contributed five assists. Ramapo hit 13 field goals shooting 41% in the final 20 minutes of play. Usuwa led Stockton with ten points and his team went 13-34 (38%) in the half.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 27TH and 28th when they travel to the D3Hoops Classic in Las Vegas to face off with Wisconsin-Stevens Point and University of Scranton respectively.
