Pomona, NJ: Top-seeded Richard Stockton (25-7) won its third consecutive NJAC volleyball championship and seventh overall with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 sweep of second-seeded Ramapo (24-5).
Freshmen Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah), the NJAC Rookie of the Year, and Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn/Fair Lawn) led the Ospreys to the league title with 10 kills apiece. Stockton also extended its winning streak to eight matches with the victory.
Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown) added nine kills and Laura Hausman (Bethlehem, PA/Catasauqua) directed the Stockton attack with 24 assists.
Meagan Taege (Manahawkin/Southern) paced Ramapo with 15 kills and
Michelle Ferrari (Marlton/ Cherokee), the 2010 NJAC Player of the Year, added 10 kills and 13 digs.
Hennecke propelled Stockton to a 25-19 win in the first set with a perfect five kills on five attacks. Teage powered Ramapo with six kills in the opening frame. Teage again sparked the Roadrunners with seven kills in the second set. Ramapo opened up a 12-8 lead but Stockton roared back to win 25-19 behind three kills by Serekian.
The Ospreys jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set and never looked back, clinching the NJAC title 25-18. Hennecke and Tabitha Nejman (Runnemede/Our Lady of Mercy) led the balanced Stockton offense with four kills apiece while Velott and Serekian each contributed three kills in the final set.
As the NJAC champion, Stockton earned an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. The NCAA bracket will be announced via webcast on ncaa.com on Monday at 11 a.m. The Roadrunners will wait to hear of a possible ECAC Championship bid to be announced Monday at 2 p.m.
