Gwynedd Valley, PA: Gwynedd-Mercy held off visiting Ramapo College field hockey team, 3-1, today in non-league action Saturday afternoon.

Freshman goalie Christa Breidenstein (Reading, PA), making her first start of the season, earned the victory by making six saves on the day.

The Griffins (7-5) built a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from Christine Hammitt (Delran, NJ) and and Kelsey Deveney (Dalton, PA).

After a red card was given to Ramapo in the second half, forcing them to play a man down, the Griffins looked to press to put the game away. The Roadrunners did not go away, cutting into the lead with a goal with just over 10 minutes in regulation by junior Jayne Manigrasso (Atlantic Highlands, NJ).

Soon after, GM was faced with offensive pressure from Ramapo (5-6), as the Roadrunners forced a slew of penalty corners in the last seven minutes of the contest, but Breidenstein and the Griffin defense came out unscathed.

Junior Nicole Tourdot (Blue Bell, PA) helped seal the win with an insurance goal in the game's final minute.

Sophomore Rebecca Elliott (Brick, NJ) made 11 stops for the Roadrunners.
