Rochester, NY: The RIT women's soccer team began the 2009 campaign on Saturday morning in the opening game of the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament, losing to Ramapo College 2-1.
The Tigers took the lead in the 19th minute on a goal by Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley). Freshman midfielder Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) created the scoring chance when she took a shot that Ramapo goalkeeper
Jessica DaRold saved. However, the deflection went right to Pisher who one-timed into the net for a 1-0 RIT lead.
Ramapo tied the score in the 24th minute on
Kimberly Bruno's (Middletown, NJ) first of two goals. She gave the Roadrunners the lead in the 31st minute with her second goal of the half. Her shot from distance caught Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) off her line and it fell into the net.
RIT had some decent scoring chances in the second half, but the Tigers couldn't put one home. The Tigers out shot Ramapo 17-12 and took nine corner kicks. The Roadrunners had seven fouls to RIT's five.
Ramapo will play Cortland State tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 pm in the championship game of the Rachel Miller Tournament.
