GRIFFITH SCORES TWO AS RAMAPO DOWNS NJCU, 4-2

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University today, 4-2 at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners now stand at 6-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference while the Gothic Knights fall to 7-5 and 2-2 in the conference.

Rookie Kaitlin Griffith (Cedar Knolls, NJ) put Ramapo on the board 9:38 into the game. A pass into the box was cleared by the NJCU goalie but the ball was deflected off a NJCU player allowing Griffith to rip a shot into the back of the net.

Sophomore Erica Percella (Bayonne, NJ) knocked in a shot in front of the net off a corner by rookie Ashley Cunha (Edison, NJ) to tie the game at 1-1 at 18:56.

Junior Kimberly Bruno (Middletown, NJ) put Ramapo up 2-1 at 27:05 into the game when she connected on a pass from junior Melanie Pupo (Newton, NJ). The goal was Bruno's sixth of the year.

Pupo then scored off a pass from Bruno for Ramapo's third goal of the half at 43:33 to make it 3-1. Ramapo held a slight 6-4 edge in shots in the first half while NJCU goal keeper Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, NJ) recorded three saves and senior Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) had two.

In the second half, Griffith scored her second goal of the game and NJCU tacked on another. Cunha put one into the back of the net to pull the Gothic Knights within two, 4-2. The Ramapo defense held strong the rest of the game for their sixth win of the season.

The Roadrunners posted 12 shots in the game to NJCU's 15 while Ramapo held an advantage in saves 6-4.

Ramapo returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Rowan University at 7:00 PM.
