RAMAPO SHUTS OUT RUTGERS-NEWARK, 3-0

Mahwah, NJ: The Lady Roadrunners played host to the Scarlet Raiders tonight at the Bradley Center in a women's volleyball New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. After a 25-20 game one victory, the Roadrunners pushed to take game two and three, 25-10 and 25-20 respectively earning the 3-0 shutout win in NJAC play. The Roadrunners improve to 10-3 overall, 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while Rutgers Newark remains defeated falling to 0-18 overall, 0-3 in the conference.

Behind four kills from sophomore Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ), the Roadrunners took game one, 25-20, to take a one game advantage in a best of five match-up. Smith recorded no errors on seven attempts hitting .571 in the game. The team combined for 23 kills while sophomore setter Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) dished out 11 assists. Ramapo held the Scarlet Raiders to only two kills and handed the team 14 points on their own errors, eight from serving. Toni Moppert (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) led the Scarlet Raider defense with three digs.

Ramapo hit .350 as a team in the second set earning a 25-10 win for a two game lead over the Scarlet Raiders. Smith led the way once again with three kills while fellow sophomore Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ) added three kills on her own. Fischer dished out four assists and rookie Julia Tuzio (Paramus, NJ) led the defense with six digs. Rachel Witt (Basking Ridge, NJ) led Rutgers Newark with two of the teams three kills. Moppert added five digs in the game.

Anders recorded a team leading five kills in the final set leading the Roadrunners to a 25-20 win for the three game sweep. The team hit a combined .423 with 13 kills on 26 attempts and only two errors. #Jamie
Leishman# (Midland Park, NJ) dished out eight assists and Kimberly Runge (Closter, NJ) recorded three digs. Witt led Rutgers Newark with four kills while the team combined for 12 kills on 23 attempts with four errors hitting .348. Rutgers Newark came within two points, 19-17, when Stephanie Touzan (West New York, NJ) recorded three straight aces but a fourth serve which landed outside the court put the ball back in Ramapo's hands. The Roadrunners closed out the final points for the win.

On the night, Anders recorded ten kills and Smith finished with nine while Fischer wrapped up the night with 15 assists. Tuzio led the team's defense with six digs.

Witt finished the night with eight kills and Touzan recorded six, while Gabi Mangieri (West Orange, NJ) contributed 17 assists. The defensive leader was Moppert with ten digs. Ramapo hit .333 as a team
ahead of the Scarlet Raiders .103.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 26th when they host the Roadunner Classic beginning at 10am featuring USMMA, Simmons, and Baruch. Rutgers Newark hosts Montclair State on September 29th at 7pm.
