Buffalo, NY: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team, ranked #6 in the nation on the AVCA poll, opened the Buffalo weekend with a 3-1 (24-30, 30-28, 30-25, 30-24) victory over the Mavericks of Medaille. With the victory, Ramapo improves to 20-2 overall, Medaille falls to 12-10.
Senior
Tom Kohler (East Brunwick, NJ) led the team with 19 kills on 29 attempts with only two errors, hitting a team leading .586 in the match. Fellow seniors
Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ) and
TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) chipped in 15 and 14 kills respectively while sophomore
Jeff Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) added eight kills to the mix.
Defensive specialist
Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led the defense with 13 digs and
Kevin McNerney (Bayonne, NJ) and Donohue added 11 digs each. Kohler and T. Elsasser each put away six blocks on the night.
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) dished out 55 assists in the team's 20th win of the 2009 season.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they take on D'Youville College and MSOE at 1:00pm and 5:00pm respectively.
