Mahwah, NJ: The #6 ranked Ramapo College men's volleyball team faced off with #3 Stevens Institute tonight at the Bradley Center earning a 3-0 (30-27, 30-28, 31-29) sweep to improve to 19-2 overall, remaining undefeated in the conference at 8-0. Stevens falls to 16-4 overall and posts their first NECVA Metro loss falling to 4-1. With the victory the Roadrunners move into first place in the NECVA Metro Division.
In game one, Ramapo came out on top, 30-27, behind five kills from senior
Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ). Senior
Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) added four kills to the mix while
TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) and
Jeff Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) added three each. Ramapo hit a combined .317.
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) dished out 17 assists and Donohue led the defense with five digs. Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.) recorded seven kills leading the Ducks while the team combined for 17 kills. The Ducks hit .167 in the game. Brandt Grobeis (Livingston, NJ) dished out 11 assists.
The Roadrunners fought from behind to take game two, 30-28, after putting away 20 kills on 46 attempts hitting .217. Donohue again led the Roadrunners six kills and Kohler added five to the win. Sierra added 14 assists to the box score and
Kevin McNerney (Bayonne, NJ) led the defense with seven digs. Stevens combined hitting .268 with 16 kills on 41 attempts, led by five kills from Trinsey. Grobeis dished out 15 assists and led the defense with five digs. Doug Reger (Flemington, NJ) recorded four blocks in the game.
Ramapo swept the Ducks with a 31-29 game three win behind seven kills from Kohler and another six from Donohue. Ramapo hit .386 with 22 kills on 44 attempts and only five hitting errors. Sierra contributed another 17 assists and McNerney led the way with four digs. Trinsey led the Ducks with nine kills while the team combined hitting 18 kills on 36 attempts and six errors, .333. Grobeis dished out 12 assists and Tomas Bochicchio (Saint Jamea,NY) recorded five digs.
Donohue recorded 17 kills and Kohler added 16 leading the Roadrunners to the 3-0 sweep. Ramapo hit .305 ahead of Steven's .248. Sierra finished the night with 48 assists and McNerney led the defense with 14 digs. Trinsey finished on top of all Ducks with 21 kills and Grobeis dished out 38 assists and led with ten digs.
The Roadrunners return to action this weekend when they travel to Buffalo to face off with Medaille on Friday, March 6th at 7:00 PM.
