Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 16-3 decision today to the Rams of Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference match-up at the Athletic Center. With the loss Ramapo falls to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in the Skyline Conference, while the Rams improve to 3-2 overall, 2-0 in the conference.
The Rams got on the scoreboard first at 23:57 when Justine Rothar (Levittown, NY) ripped a shot past the Ramapo goalkeeper to go up 1-0. Farmingdale quickly earned a two goal edge with a goal from Shannon Reardon (North Babylon, NY) just 15 seconds later. Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, NY) gave the Rams a three goal lead at 21:40 before Reardon scored her second of the game at 21:21 off an assist from Jennifer Jung (New Hyde Park, NY). Farmingdale State went up five goals to none, with a goal from Jackie Messina (Smithtown, NY) before the Roadrunners put up a point of their own with a free position goal from
Christina Cigolini (Ridgewood, NJ). Reardon put away back-to-back goals and Messina hit the back of the net, to give the Rams an 8-1 lead with 4:16 to play in the half. The Roadrunners would score their final two goals of the game before the halftime horn to close the gap, 8-3.
Sam Thompson (Cape May Courthouse, NJ) and
Colleen Steel (Wyckoff, NJ) each scored one for the Roadrunners.
Farmingdale continued to dominate scoring eight more goals in the final 30 minutes to take the conference game from Ramapo, 16-3. Rokee, Messina, Rothar (2), Reardon, Caitlin Brown (North Babtlon, NY), Autumn Berndt (Brewster, NY), and Katelin McIsaac (Longwood, NY) all contributed goals in the second half of play.
Emalee Ciampo (Plainview, NY) recorded five saves for the Rams while
Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) blocked 15 shots for Ramapo. Both played the full 60 minutes in front of the net.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Western Connecticut for a 7:00pm start on Tuesday, March 31st.
