Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team has swept the NECVA Metro Conference with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-13, 30-23) victory over the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University tonight. With the win, the Roadrunners earn the NECVA Metro Division Championship to improve to 22-5 overall. Ramapo defeated all Metro conference teams going 9-0 in 2009.
Ramapo opened the NECVA Metro season with a 3-0 (30-11, 30-20, 30-20) sweep over Polytechnic before earning a 3-0 (30-21, 30-14, 30-23) win over Mt. St. Vincent. The Roadrunners continued sweeping the Metro conference with 3-0 wins over SUNY Purchase (30-22, 30-21, 30-24) and Yeshiva University (30-8, 30-14, 30-17), before adding a fifth conference sweep over Bard College, (30-17, 30-16, 30-19) to improve to 5-0 in the division. Ramapo went 3-0 again over New Paltz 30-26, 30-27, 31-29), before their first and only game loss came to Vassar College on February 28th. The Roadrunners came out on top of then ranked #5 Vassar, 3-1 (28-30, 30-23, 30-24, 30-20) before firing down a 3-0 match-up over #3 Stevens (30-27, 30-28, 31-29). In their final NECVA Metro conference match-up tonight against NJCU, Ramapo earned their eighth sweep in the conference to go 9-0 on the year.
Seniors
Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) and
TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ), along with sophomore
Matt Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ), led the Roadrunners with seven kills each, while defensively senior
Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ) put away a team leading six digs. Elsasser totaled five blocks and Whitford added three in the sweep.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, March 19th when they travel to Stevenson.
